Details

When we renovated Au Souleu we went through the whole family history.
The family of Arthur and Marie-Antoinette and their kids. At first Arthur, who was an architect designed this beautiful house.
But then it got filled with stuff and more important with stories.

We are the next generation. We had to give the villa a bit of freshen up.
But... we have tried to keep the history as much as possible alive. And you can see that in so many small details.

This is not just a house. It is a welcoming home with a french story!

ART in the south of France.

Oooops. Not good!
4 Renoir paintings have been stolen from the Renoir museum in Cagnes sur Mer. Cagnes sur Mer is on only a few kilometres drive from Vence.

So many known artists have been living or active in this area in the south of France. Van Gogh, Picasso, Matisse, Chagall.... they have all spent time in/around Vence.

Where Renoir lived the last years of his life in Cagnes sur Mer,
Matisse moved in 1943 to Vence where he built/designed the Chapelle du Rosaire in Vence.

Marc Chagall also lived and worked years in Vence. There is still a mozaik in the cathedral in Vence. Which is by the way the smallest cathedral in France.
Chagall is burried in the cemetry of St Paul de Vence.

Picasso spent his last years also in the closeby Mougins and you can visit the Picasso museum in Antibes.

So enough to do in the Vence area for art lovers!

Two thieves broke into the museum on Tuesday morning - authorities initially said only one painting had been abandoned.

Summer holidays are over and people are back to work. The next holiday is the autumn break.

Au Souleu is still available.

Une belle histoire!

Once upon a time.....
There was Arthur Teisseire, an architect, who designed in 1936 his dream house in the south of France. Coming from the south himself he was living and working at that time as an architect in Paris.
His dream house, he called 'Au Souleu', which is provencal for Au Soleil.... Under the sun!

And you know what? Now, 90 years later, we his grandson and family are enjoying his beautiful piece of art. As you can really call the house like that.

Since we are not there all the time we are so happy that also others can enjoy his house in this beautiful part of the south of France.

Would you like to enjoy as well a week, or two, in Vence? You are more than welcome.
There is space for 12 people, in 6 bedrooms.

What a hot summer it was. From tomorrow the temperatures will go down a bit.
Luckily we have a refreshing pool.

Winter is not there yet, but will be on its way.

Next to central heating we do have a cozy wood burner stove .

And with the grand piano 🎹 you can have pleasant evenings around the fireplace.
