It’s been a hot summer for the past two weeks, but we are seeing a drop in temperatures and a little rain on the horizon for next week.
Summer is definitely look good at Les Sorels and Le Calabash with a bumper crop of herbs 🪴 and Rebeka’s tomatoes 🍅
A short drive from Les Sorels will take you to some of France’s finest wine areas and beautiful towns.

At Les Sorels we’re excited and privileged to be able to have Olona here from the Amy Foundation who are doing incredible things in the lives of South African youth.

Olona has made a positive impact during her stay at Les Sorels. Implementing fresh ideas with her hands on approach and curiosity 💐

✨As we celebrate Youth Month✨

We’re shining the spotlight on Olona Mafalala, a remarkable young woman whose journey is a powerful example of growth, determination and the impact of opportunity.

At just 23 years old, Olona has made incredible strides since joining the Amy Foundation in October 2022. Initially aspiring to become a nurse, she discovered her true passion through our Hospitality Programme and embraced the opportunity to build a future in the industry.

When Olona joined the programme, she was very shy, but she saw it as a chance to step out of her comfort zone and grow. Just weeks into the programme, she secured an internship Lagoon Beach Hotel & Spa. Shortly thereafter, she was successfully nominated for a 3-year Hotel Management Traineeship at The Vineyard Hotel, where she is now a permanent employee and has recently completed her Diploma in Hotel Management.

Currently, Olona is in France on a 6-week internship at Le Calabash Petit Conservatoire de la cuisine in the beautiful Loire Valley, an incredible opportunity made possible by Chef Sidney and Chef Alison, founders of Le Calabash.

An update from Olona in France:
“I am now three weeks into my internship and I am feeling much more confident and comfortable. I’ve learned a lot, met great people, and I’m really enjoying the journey so far. I’ve also made a few mistakes along the way, but I’ve learned from them and will continue improving myself. I’m excited to keep growing and see what comes next.”

A heartfelt thank you to Chef Sidney and Chef Alison for investing in our youth and helping to create life changing opportunities for young people.

Olona’s journey is a reminder of what is possible when young people are given opportunities to learn, grow and thrive. We are incredibly proud of all that she has achieved and look forward to seeing what comes next. 💫

Meet the fascinating Hummingbird Moth! ✨

Often mistaken for a hummingbird, these remarkable creatures are actually moths. They undergo a complete metamorphosis, passing through four stages: egg, caterpillar (larva), pupa, and adult.

Despite their relatively short lifespan of 3 weeks to 7 months, hummingbird moths play an important role in nature. As effective pollinators, they help support a healthy and vibrant ecosystem. While their larvae (hornworms) may occasionally nibble on plants, the damage is usually minimal and rarely a cause for concern.

Take a moment to appreciate these amazing little visitors when you spot them in the garden!
