The Arth Flag was created in response to the devastating reality that pollution is destroying the ecology and autonomy of the river Arth.
During the art classes, held at the village hall a group of creatives questioned what it means culturally, politically and personally to connect to a river whose future is under threat.
The flag weaves together select moments from the participating artists' work to visualise the beauty and spirit of the river Arth.

Crëwyd Y Faner Arth mewn ymateb i’r realiti dinistriol bod llygredd yn dinistrio ecoleg ac ymreolaeth yr afon Arth.
Yn ystod y dosbarthiadau celf, a gynhaliwyd yn neuadd y pentref bu criw o bobl greadigol yn cwestiynu beth mae’n ei olygu’n ddiwylliannol, yn wleidyddol ac yn bersonol i gysylltu ag afon sydd o dan fygythiad.
Mae'r faner yn plethu gyda'i gilydd eiliadau dethol o waith yr artistiaid nath cymryd rhan i ddelweddu harddwch ac ysbryd yr afon Arth.

The art classes were curated by Natalie Chapmanand Harriett Chapmanand supported by the Arts Council of Wales

Today the nation will protest across the U.K demanding an end to Sewage Pollution in our rivers by 2030. It's time to hold Dwr Cymru Welsh Water responsible for its actions. Our protest will be happening very soon but today we stand in solidarity with Surfers Against Sewage in their fight for planetary justice.

The sewage results are in for 2021
https://theriverstrust.org/sewage-map

We are outraged to discover that the Welsh Water treatment plant in Pennant is still releasing 4075 hours of raw sewage into the river Arth every year. It is one of the highest offending treatment plants in Wales, and it's right here in our community. Despite all our efforts and communications, we have yet to see any definitive action from Welsh Water to improve the plant or from Natural Resources of Wales in holding them accountable for the colossal damage they are causing to our river.
We realise that other rivers are under threat from sewage pollution. so we welcome anyone to the meeting who is concerned about their river. We know that Elizabeth Evans is campaigning for improvements to all the plants in Aberaeron, so if you are an Aberaeron resident come and join us. Let's stand in solidarity to END SEWAGE POLLUTION IN OUR RIVERS.

Ask About The Arth (AATA) is a community initiative that aims to protect and cherish the river Arth for future generations. Our group is made up of passionate and enthusiastic members all willing to do what it takes to realise our vision for a happier, healthier river. Our main objectives are to

1. Achieve excellent bathing water status for the river and the beach
2. Enhance biodiversity in the river
3. Increase opportunities for connections between people and nature along the river Arth and its tributaries

We understand that this will be a long and complicated journey. We accept that there will be obstacles and hurdles to navigate. But we also recognise that we have a responsibility to protect and safeguard our river from further damage and devastation.

Mae Gofynnwch An Yr Arth (GAYA) yn fenter gymunedol sy’n anelu at warchod a choleddu’r afon Arth ar gyfer cenedlaethau’r dyfodol.
Mae ein grŵp yn cynnwys aelodau angerddol a brwdfrydig i gyd yn barod i wneud yr hyn sydd ei angen i wireddu ein gweledigaeth ar gyfer afon hapusach, iachach. Ein prif amcanion yw

1. Cyflawni statws dŵr ymdrochi ardderchog ar gyfer yr afon a'r traeth

2. Gwella bioamrywiaeth yn yr afon

3. Cynyddu cyfleoedd ar gyfer cysylltiadau rhwng pobl a natur ar hyd yr afon Arth a'i llednentydd

Rydym yn deall y bydd hon yn daith hir a chymhleth. Rydym yn derbyn y bydd rhwystrau a rhwystrau i’w llywio. Ond rydym hefyd yn cydnabod bod gennym gyfrifoldeb i amddiffyn a diogelu ein hafon rhag difrod a dinistr pellach.
