Yesterday, as part of our Social Value commitments on our Bristol City Council projects, Rhian Lawton, Social Value Manager, and Harvey Jones, Apprentice Quantity Surveyor, took part in a "Guess My Job" session at Ashton Park School in Bristol, organised by Bristol Works. 🏫🀝

The session formed part of the school's Year 7 careers programme, which aims to inspire and motivate students by introducing them to the world of work and the wide range of career opportunities available to them after leaving school. πŸŒŸπŸ“š

Through engaging discussions and interactive activities, Rhian and Harvey shared insights into their roles and career journeys, helping students gain a better understanding of the construction industry and the diverse pathways it can offer. πŸ‘·β€β™€οΈπŸ‘·β€β™‚οΈπŸ’¬

Great work from Rhian and Harvey for engaging with the students and helping to showcase the wide range of opportunities available within the construction industry. πŸ‘πŸ™Œ

As part of our work with Pembrokeshire County Council, Gruff Roberts and Rhian Lawton recently visited Greenhill School in Tenby to speak with Year 12 students as they consider their next steps after school. With their A Levels taking place next year, many are already beginning to think about their future education and career options. πŸ‘·πŸŽ“

Rhian and Gruff delivered a presentation about Walters and the work we are carrying out for Pembrokeshire County Council in Haverfordwest as part of the town’s community development plans. They also discussed the apprenticeship and graduate routes available within the business, with Gruff sharing his own apprenticeship journey to give students an insight into the different pathways into the industry. πŸ‘·β€β™‚οΈπŸ—οΈ

The session prompted some great discussions, including a request from one student for work experience, which we will look to support over the summer holidays. Students also completed a careers questionnaire designed to encourage them to think about the wide range of roles available within the construction sector. πŸ’‘πŸ“

It was also great to hand out copies of the new CECA Wales Careers Brochure, which highlights the many opportunities available across the civil engineering industry. πŸ“–

Thank you to Rhian and Gruff. πŸ‘

Last week, the annual Safety Expo took place at the A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet Project. πŸ‘·πŸ›£οΈ

Walters, supported by SMT GB, hosted an ADT and Wheel Loader Simulator challenge, giving attendees the opportunity to experience life behind the controls.

Throughout the day, 462 people took part, ranging from office-based staff keen to gain a better understanding of site operations to experienced Walters operators testing their skills against colleagues and the clock. πŸ‘πŸ‘

Despite the challenging weather conditions, the event was a great success, providing valuable opportunities to engage with other teams across the project, share knowledge, and reinforce the importance of safety and collaboration on site. 🀝🦺

Thank you to everyone who took the time to get involved and contribute to another successful Safety Expo. 😊🚧

As part of our Penarth Escarpment project for Vale of Glamorgan Council, Jacob, Leo, Daisy and Rhian visited St Cyres School this morning to deliver an engaging careers session for students. πŸ‘·β€β™‚οΈπŸ«

Working alongside Careers Wales and school staff, we developed and delivered two one-hour sessions during the morning for around 50 Year 7 and Year 9 students. πŸ“š

The sessions introduced students to Walters, highlighting the wide range of roles and opportunities available to young people considering a career in the civil engineering industry. πŸ¦ΊπŸ’‘

Our Apprentice Engineers, Jacob and Leo, also shared insights into the Penarth Escarpment project itself, connecting the work directly to topics the students are currently studying in their geography lessons. πŸ› οΈ

Thank you to Jacob, Leo, Daisy and Rhian! πŸ‘

Over the last year, our team at our Bro Tathan utilities site have been proudly running a Safety Champion initiative to encourage everyone to play an active role in improving safety standards and behaviours across the project. πŸ‘·β€β™‚οΈ

Each month, we have recognised one Safety Champion each month for their valuable contributions, whether through raising concerns, submitting observation cards, promoting safer ways of working, or leading by example on site. πŸ‘

The initiative has helped drive positive change across the project, improving behaviours and compliance with procedures, as well as promoting a more proactive and resilient safety culture. βœ…πŸ¦Ί

Thank you to everyone at Bro Tathan for supporting the initiative and continuing to prioritise safety in everything we do. πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

We’re proud to support 30 members of the Walters team as they prepare for the Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday 4 October 2026. πŸƒπŸƒ

This challenge is a great opportunity for colleagues across the business to come together, support one another, and promote positive wellbeing through running and teamwork. πŸ‘

We’re also pleased to be working with CIRF UK Athletics Coach Hector, who will help motivate and guide our team as they prepare for the Half Marathon. 😊

We will also be announcing in the coming weeks the charity we will be supporting as part of our Charity of the Year initiative.

As part of our social value commitments for our Haverfordwest Castle project for Pembrokeshire County Council, we were proud to support recent community engagement work alongside the team at VC Gallery, led by our very own Wayne Scott. πŸ‘

The work formed part of the Dig for Victory programme, funded by the Armed Forces Covenant, which encourages ex-military personnel and members of the local community to get involved in gardening, wellbeing, and outdoor activities. 🌿

From planting seeds and creating flower gardens to building bird boxes and benches, the project is helping to create a welcoming community space while promoting wellbeing, connection, and inclusion for all. 🌱

A great example of positive partnership working and meaningful social value being delivered within the local community. πŸ’š

Diolch to everyone who took part! 🀝
