🏘 Exciting news for Grandhome! Places for People will begin building 84 new affordable homes in the Summer - the final part of the first phase.

Affordable housing - delivered to the same consistently high standards in quality and design - has always central to our vision for Grandhome, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming PfP on site in the coming months. They will deliver a mixture of one and two-bedroom apartments, as well as two, three, and four-bedroom terraced housing, including both affordable and social rent options.

All homes are designed in accordance with the Grandhome Development Framework and its associated Design Code, creating tenure-blind housing consistent with the high standards delivered throughout the wider community.

Earlier today (Tuesday 23 July), a contractor working on site accidentally severed the electricity supply to the temporary pumping station which supplies water to a number of homes in Grandhome. Thankfully no-one was injured, but unfortunately this temporarily impacted the water supply at Grandhome. Technicians have been on-site and the supply should be restored imminently; we’re told within the next hour. We are sorry for any inconvenience.

The children of Banana Moon Day Nursery have been spreading some festive joy with the delivery of almost 400 Christmas parcels to the elderly and the local community last weekend. We are very proud of them and wish them all a very Merry Christmas.🎄🌟

Earlier this month, there was a recurrence of an issue with a blocked sewer line in Laverock Braes Road which caused a foul smell in the wider area and impacted a number of AJC homes in particular. This was reported to Scottish Water who are responsible for the pipes and drains; they surveyed the pipe by camera and discovered a significant build-up of wipes and grease. On this occasion, given the urgency of the situation and a delay in Scottish Water resolving the issue, we instructed a contractor to urgently unblock the pipe.

Scottish Water make great efforts to communicate about this issue and have undertaken campaigns, including ‘Nature Calls’, details of which can be found at the link. This highlights important steps that can be taken to prevent blockages, 80% of which are caused by items that weren’t meant to be flushed down the loo or poured down sinks and drains. Prevention is critical as odours created by blocked drains can easily migrate inside a home which can be extremely unpleasant.

We would encourage everyone to read and share these details in the hope it might prevent any further blockages.

Huge congratulations to Banana Moon Day Nursery which was praised by the Care Inspectorate during a recent visit for going “above and beyond” for the children in its care.

Manager Terry Wiseman and her team do a fantastic job looking after some 65 children at the nursery, which we are proud is part of the community at Grandhome. You can read more about their success in this recent article from the Press and Journal.

The manager of Banana Moon Nursery said the positive inspection was a "career highlight".

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

The lights at the pavilion on Davidston Square have been installed, adding some sparkle and festive cheer to the heart of Grandhome. This year’s Christmas cards have also been delivered; thank you once again to the pupils of Banana Moon Day Nursery for yet another charming design.

The team at Grandhome wishes all residents a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
