📢 Housing (Scotland) Act 2025 receives Royal Assent

The Housing (Scotland) Act has now become law, but most provisions won’t take effect for at least 1–2 years, as further legislation is required before implementation.

Key changes coming to the private rented sector include:
• Long-term rent controls within designated rent control areas
• New rights for tenants to personalise their homes and request pets
• A process for ending joint tenancies where tenants disagree
• Powers to convert older assured and short-assured tenancies into private residential tenancies in future

SAL will work closely with government and stakeholders as the secondary legislation and guidance are developed, ensuring members’ views are represented.

✔️ Maintain steady heating to reduce moisture build-up
