Happy Easter everyone. I wanted to let everyone know that have had to let Owl Cottage go. The past few years have been difficult health wise & with now being on my own, it was impossible to keep it on. Really sad about it, but am fortunate to have such lovely memories spent there.

Great news

The owner of a much-loved Northumberland food business says that he is "over the moon" he will soon be able to expand. 🙌

Andy Grant, who owns and operates Piper's Pitch from a wooden cabin in Craster Quarry Car Park, has been successful in his application for a change of use to the village's former tourist information centre.

Andy is bringing the site back as a retail shop during the day and a bistro in the evening. Using the existing Piper's Pitch as a kitchen, there are themed nights such as curry, steak and burgers. 🍔

The 55-year-old hopes to be serving food to guests the new building by the May Bank Holiday. Planning bosses say that the Piper's Pitch expansion "will support the social and economic vitality of the rural area."

He told ChronicleLive: "I'm over the moon. It's going ahead and everyone in and around Craster, and as far away as Australia, has been sending good wishes."

Piper's Pitch will continue serving its famous Auchtermuchty sandwiches and Craster kippers in a bun during the day, as it has been doing for the last 19 years. 🥪

Orion at Dunstanburgh Castle, Northumberland.

It’s the perfect time of year to capture probably the most famous constellation, Orion. Here you can see the complex gas clouds scattered across the constellation. The brightest one is the Orion Nebula, then you have the Horsehead Nebula which seems to hang off one of the belt stars, Alnitak. Barnards Loop is the big arc that wraps around the left side of Orion.

This slightly more zoomed in view is known as a deepscape, and is virtually impossible to achieve this in one click. The whole image is shot at 135mm on a star tracker and is a combination of over 200 images (including calibration frames). Some images in full colour, some in H-alpha, some with a fog filter for bloated stars and some shorter exposures to try and preserve the highlights in the Orion Nebula. I’ve tried to position the sky to make it as accurate as possible relative to the castle.

Dramatic

This image was taken on a moody morning, from a small cove south of Craster, known as The Black Hole. It makes the perfect backdrop for the silhouetted Dunstanburgh Castle.

About 10 mins before I took this shot, I heard what has to be the loudest clap of thunder I’ve ever heard.
