We had our first review from guests staying in Shirley Bussey and phew, they liked it! The thing that keeps coming back is how peaceful the place is. Nothing but cows, sheep and stars surrounding you. What could be more relaxing than that?

If you want to switch off, escape the daily grind and the household chores, book a weekend with us. Within a 2 hour drive from Manchester or Liverpool you could be here by Friday night. The log cabins, Garden Cottage and Shirley Bussey are now open and waiting, just for you. It might only be a short stay but with beautiful beach walks and all that sea air, you’ll return home so much more relaxed.

As we come to the end of our renovation here at Mount Pleasant Hideaway, I want to mention the tireless work of our builder, Adam. When we came to him with this project, it was a third of the size of what it has turned out to be. We added more and more and he never faltered. He just carried on with our crazy plans, coming up with great ideas to add and throwing in some lovely touches. His enthusiasm and dedication to the job has been second to none.

Take a look at the before and after pics of Garden Cottage. Nearly all of this has been done by Adam’s hands. If you are looking for a great builder then make contact with A Pritchard Building & Home Maintenance. He will be looking for new projects on the island very soon.

How great are these! Which makes you want to stay the most?

The brilliant Si Ranshaw Photography has been over to Mount Pleasant Hideaway snapping away and here’s some of the shots. Now Cinders has two cabins and a bus to clean but I will upload the full set to our website this evening when I’m back, which sounds like a relatively easy job except it’s also my birthday today so it’s highly likely alcohol will be taken.

WARNING: Photos could be upside down, prices could be in Yen, Shirley Bussey could end up listed as a two-bedroom villa in Marbella. I’m not the best at tech on a good day. Anything could happen. Brace yourselves people!

Where’s your limit? Knees, chest or simply a toe?

It’s cold-water swimming I’m talking about of course, which has taken Anglesey by storm and although willingly stepping into the icy Irish Sea might sound slightly mad, it’s apparently good for us. But if you want to add some heat to the experience, then it might be worth taking a look at this…

Sawna Bach - The Scenic Sauna has two wood fired saunas to rent, one on Llyn Padarn over in Llanberis and one here on one of my favourite beaches, Porth Tyn Tywyn. You can make a private or shared booking for 50 or 80 mins and the views are beautiful too!

So if you insist on voluntarily turning yourself into a human ice lolly, you might as well finish the experience as a perfectly toasted marshmallow.

So come on, who’s braver than me? I’m definitely a toe dipper. Sometimes just half a toe. In June.

Take a look at these. The last pic blew me away!

We booked Si Ranshaw Photography to come and photograph Mount Pleasant Hideaway and I’ve just got the photos back. What a cool, talented, lovely guy! He shoots with such ease and lack of fuss and yet the images he produces are truly amazing. I wanted him to shoot as simply and as real as possible and he has just captured the natural light falling into each room perfectly. Here’s a behind the scenes look at him at work. Is it wrong to be jealous of your guests? Asking for a friend.

Our first bus guests will be arriving on Saturday to stay in Shirley Bussey and this is their view! We’ve just installed a brand new, wood-fired hot tub so they can sit like absolute royalty, glass in hand, watching the sun disappear and the stars come out.

As the great philosopher Socrates once said, ‘Everything the light touches is your kingdom.’ Or perhaps it was Mufasa from The Lion King. I can’t remember.

So tell me, who would you like to sit here with and do you prefer a soak at sunrise or under the stars?

Have you ever thought of swapping footprints for hooves? If you had the chance, would you be team tally-ho or team hell no?

Charlie and I have never been officially taught how to ride. We are terrible at it but when on holiday, we both like to take a horse off into the hills or along the beach if we can. So if you’re like us, you can get your thrills at Anglesey Equestrian Centre here on the island which offers chilled hour long trots to full beach gallops. The views are spectacular and the horses are bouncy. What more could you ask for?

Sunday morning question for you? Where do you keep your tomato sauce?

I have just read the back of the sauce label and it says ‘store in fridge and consume within 8 weeks.’ Now I don’t like sauce in the fridge as it makes the food cold. Also I have never consumed a whole bottle in 8 weeks. Does this mean I’m going to meet an untimely death due to poor storage abilities?

Tell me where you keep yours and if you’ve ever suffered from poor storage of something else? Intrigued!

Fancy a little detour for lunch?

If you’re heading down to Newborough to wander around Llanddwyn Beach or stopping off to have a go at saying Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch without taking a breath, you might want to swing by Hooton's Homegrown Farm Shop which is the home of the proper jacket potato god also known as James the farmer.

He serves up some lovely combinations from his tractor trailer with my go to fav being the pulled lamb with mint jelly which is basically a hug in a spud. But if that’s not your thing, they’ve got pulled pork, coronation chicken, veggie chilli. tuna, cheese and beans and more. If you’re not full after then it’s a miracle but there’s also comforting apple crumble usually on offer too, or rhubarb if you’re feeling extra fruity. If I do go for a crumble it’s definitely a lie down job, holding my stomach afterwards.

You can also get lovely local produce in the shop with currently fresh sweetcorn just been picked down the road on the veggie patches along with sunflowers fresh from the sunflower trail. If you’re looking for homegrown, good quality and local, you don’t want to miss this.
