It seems like only yesterday we got John the Builder in to “ just put in a shower” and before we knew it he had nearly demolished the whole interior! We planned to be open by Easter 2018 but that soon went out the window when we saw the extent of the work that really needed done. We ended up renewing the whole of the downstairs, putting in a new kitchen, shower and bath and new intelligent centr
al heating not to mention a wood burning stove. Luckily John the Builder had a friend Fraser the Joiner to lend a hand (and suggest some good ideas like making entirely new rustic internal doors)
We opened the doors to guests in the last week in June after the cottage had had a test drive by our daughter Kate and her partner Fraser (not the joiner)
We (or rather Dorothy) have been very busy ever since with lots of lovely people booking and leaving great reviews. We have had guests from all over the UK and Europe and even some from the USA. They have all had one thing in common they treated our little cottage like their own home and looked after it. Touch wood we have had no “problem” guests at all (although we did have a narrow escape when one local schoolgirl tried to book the cottage for an end of term party)
We have added to the facilities with an outside wood fired “lumbinea” which combines the functionality of a space heater, stove and barbecue so that our guests can cook al fresco. The observant amongst you will also notice that the front colour scheme has changed to grey and white and the front door will soon be a vibrant blue which differs from the painting “A Sunny Day in Kilrenny” which is our logo. Perhaps we should ask Pauline Patrick to redo her artwork! It is over 3 years since our first booking. Who would have thought it would be such a great success!
