Sorry I’ve been quiet… we’re due to complete on a deal that has been a long time in the making on Monday… and right on cue, everything is happening at once 🙃

Weeks of silence.
Then suddenly:
• “urgent enquiries”
• last-minute documents
• everyone chasing everyone
• and a chain that could fall apart if someone sneezes

Standard. 🙄

After 15+ years in property, one thing is crystal clear:

👉 if you’re not actively managing your solicitor, things WILL drift

You don’t need to be difficult — but you do need to:
✔️ chase regularly
✔️ keep pressure on
✔️ make sure your deal stays front of mind

No one cares about your transaction as much as you do.

“That’s us. We’re done. No good.”

That’s not a general proclamation about life, but it is where we’ve got to on the idea of buying in the Morzine/ Avoriaz area.

French purchase costs (notaries, legal fees, taxes etc) on top of the price of the property itself are just the starting point.

Ongoing costs like: more taxes, service charges (if it’s an apartment), cleaning after every guest, laundering of linen and towels, buying linen and towels, and furniture, then replacing it all when people abuse it, maintenance, utilities, random unforeseeable problems like a boiler or a leak - things you don’t plan for.

And of course the fact that the rental value is highest precisely when YOU want to use it, so the dilemma of whether you should or not.

So yes, we were very keen.

But no, we’re not doing it.
