This charity does truly incredible work in our community, which is exactly why we’ve proudly supported them for over 10 years.

For every piece of feedback we receive from our clients, we add £5 to a dedicated fund, and every 3–5 months we transfer the total directly to this amazing cause.

If you’re looking to volunteer or get involved, please take a look, they’re always grateful for extra hands and support.

Slide Away is seeking volunteers to support its vital work with bereaved children.

This is an opportunity to learn new skills and use existing knowledge to support a community charity that makes a real difference in the lives of bereaved children and young people in Kent. Our roles are ideally suited to those who are reducing their working hours or pondering retirement, but we welcome applications from anyone with some time to spare, experience of working with children and young people and a desire to help.

Whether you are interested in working at the front line or supporting our governance as a Trustee, volunteers are the lifeblood of our charity and we would love to meet you. Volunteering with Slide Away can also lead to paid work.

To find out how to apply, please contact [email protected].

💚 Shoutout to a True Team Legend – Gerry 💚

We wanted to take a moment to recognise someone who really is the backbone of our technician team.

Gerry has been with South East Timber & Damp since 2014 and, in all that time, he’s rarely had a sick day. He’s an outstanding Senior Technician, known for his immense knowledge, his calm approach, and his unwavering commitment to doing things the right way and properly.

Gerry plays a huge role in supporting and mentoring our trainee technicians, generously passing on his experience and setting the standard for quality workmanship. He doesn’t cut corners, takes real pride in his work, and is someone both colleagues and clients trust completely.

At the moment, Gerry is off work with a suspected meniscus tear to his knee, and we’re really feeling his absence. While he’s sidelined (much to his frustration — he hates sitting still!), we’re fully supporting him and hoping that the private healthcare we provide helps him get the treatment and recovery he needs as quickly as possible.

Gerry, we miss you greatly, the team isn’t quite the same without you, and we’re all rooting for a speedy recovery. Take it steady — we’ll keep the tools warm until you’re back 💪

✨ Team Growth & Career Progression at South East Timber & Damp ✨

We’re really proud to share some exciting news about one of our own team members.

Keiran joined South East Timber & Damp in May 2021 and has grown into one of our lead technicians. Keiran is a PCAQT-qualified Timber & Damp Technician, and we’re delighted to say he has now taken the next big step on his journey by beginning his training to become a Surveyor with us.

Keiran is already out on site shadowing Dean, learning the surveying process first-hand and seeing issues from the “other side” of the job. Part of his training includes building his diagnostic skills by capturing clear photos and short videos of defects he comes across, helping him deepen his understanding of causes, not just symptoms.

He’s also booked onto the Property Care Association Surveyors Training this May, alongside a programme of webinars and specialist training courses to continue building his knowledge.

One thing that’s really stood out to Keiran recently is spending time with our admin team, learning how enquiries are handled from the very first phone call or email. He’s been surprised (and impressed!) by just how much goes on behind the scenes before a technician even arrives on site, proof that good surveys and good works start long before boots hit the ground.

We’re incredibly excited to support Keiran as he develops into a fully competent surveyor and, in time, begins carrying out his own survey appointments.

Investing in our team means investing in better outcomes for our clients and this is exactly how we like to do things.

Well done, Keiran we’re proud to have you on the journey with us.

TIP 4 – Are They Properly Qualified?

Look for certifications like CSRT, CSTDB or CSSW. These are industry-recognised and show the surveyor really knows their stuff.

TIP 3 – Timeliness Matters!

How long did they take to reply to your first enquiry?
If they're slow now, it might reflect how they’ll treat your survey, report, or start date.

Prompt = Professional. ⏱️

TIP 2 – Are they PCA Registered?

Always check if your contractor is a member of the Property Care Association (PCA). It’s your reassurance that they meet strict professional standards, are audited regularly, have the correct insurance, employ qualified surveyors, and are financially stable.

In short, PCA membership gives you extra protection if things go wrong – and peace of mind that you're in safe hands.

If they’re not PCA registered… ask why.

Winter Weather Warning for Your Home! 🌧️🏠

With all this wet winter weather, now is the perfect time to take 5 minutes to walk around your home and check your rainwater goods, gutters, downpipes and drains.

We’ve just been out to a property with water pouring from a broken downpipe directly onto the brickwork 😬 (video below!). The result? Damp patches and mould forming inside the house.

🍂 Blocked gutters full of leaves, or cracked and split pipes, mean rainwater isn't being taken away properly — instead, it's soaking into your walls. Over time, this causes:

🔸 Cold spots on internal walls
🔸 Mould growth
🔸 Unsightly damp patches
🔸 Potential timber damage

💡 TIP: A quick visual check could save you costly repairs down the line.

If you’re not sure what to look for — or you’ve spotted a problem — give us a call. We’re happy to help and explain things in plain English.

Stay warm and dry this winter!
