A very busy day with very different locations. Docks, nettles, thistles and buttercups, no match for the flail.
Then onto some lovely paddocks needing a trim during these wet and warm months, leaving some nice stripes and a neat finish.

Looking at taking a trip into Moray within the next couple of weeks with the flail mower. If you’re in that direction and need your paddock trimmed, give me a shout and I’ll happily come past, I’ll even throw in a discount on the travel 😉

A murky start to the day but happy it lifted and got through the long, tufty grass and weeds with no problem. 🌱🌿🌱☘️🌱🌱🌿🌱🚜💨

Bit of a renovation project today, starting to convert a field that was long overdue some maintenance into something suitable for horses.

There must have been 1-2 inches of dead undergrowth stifling what actual growth there was. A cut with the flail is a good start as it breaks down the dead grass into small pieces allowing the soil to breathe and water to seep into the roots. Lots more to do but we’re on the right track.

It was a long, hot day in the wee tractor too but it was worth it to get this field tidied up for the summer months.

Bearings and hydraulics, the most common things that break on these machines, rarely do they break within a few days of each other though. Luckily I know a few people that could help in short notice and I was back up and making stripy fields in no time.

Big shout out to Komaco for the flail bearing and R.M Trailers for fitting it on a Saturday. Also a mention to Dubby Agri for pointing me in the right direction to get a new hydraulic hose made up.

More stripes! This time with the flail.

With the weather finally turning warmer, the green stuff is going to come up thick and fast. Cutting your grass makes it stronger and healthier, whether it’s for horses or just to look nice. 🌱🌱🌱

Rushes are a common sight and are a right pain to get rid of, as they’re thick, fibrous and don’t cut well. Also commonly found in marshy areas so machinery can’t get to them without sinking into soft mud (ask me how I know 👀).

Today I had the task of cutting a small area of rushes. With a bit of persistence and a lot of time, I managed to mince them up suitably well.
