Today we show a photo of the first Mayer Free Library, founded in 1865 and was housed in the late Thomas Francis house which faced on to The Village by the bottom of Heath Road which now forms part of Mayer Park.
The Library was so popular Joseph Mayer started looking for some land to build a new library when a farm house next to his house came on the market which he bought along with 5 acers of land with it.This was about 1868 he went on to extend the farm house turning it into his new Library that opened its doors in 1870.

Hi, welcome to our new page at 65 The Village Old Library. Who are we? We are a small group that have been around from 2013 set up to save Mayer Hall & the old Mayer Free Library from being sold by Wirral Council. We will be telling the story of our journey in bring both building bac into Community use. The Library which opened its doors in 1870 by its founder Joseph Mayer so watch this space for things to come.
