We are delighted that the Branston Railway Bridge Strengthening Scheme has won the Small Project Award at the ICE West Midlands Awards 2026.

The scheme involved strengthening an existing railway arch using fibre-reinforced concrete saddling, delivered in a highly constrained live environment while maintaining uninterrupted rail operations and reducing disruption to the public.

This weekend is 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗱 - an annual celebration of windmills and watermills promoted by the Mills Section of the SPAB.

To mark the occasion, we are sharing a short video of Heage Windmill in Derbyshire - a wonderful example of the historic structures, engineering and craftsmanship that make mills such important parts of our built heritage.

Windmills and watermills are far more than picturesque landmarks. They are working machines, historic buildings, local icons and complex conservation assets. Their form, movement, materials, setting and condition all need to be properly understood if they are to be cared for, repaired and interpreted well.

Some defects need more than a photograph.
Cracking, spalling, corrosion, deformation, impact damage, joint deterioration and surface loss can all hold important information - but that information is only useful if it is captured accurately, consistently and in context.

At Terra Measurement, we use sub-millimetre scanning to create highly detailed 3D records of structural defects on bridges, buildings and other critical assets.
