Before Wonderland Berwick became a cosy sanctuary for families and friends, it had a very different life. Built in the 1820s—over 200 years ago—the ground floor of this historic building was once a busy, bustling ceramic pipe factory! 🏭

While craftspeople were hard at work producing essential pipes for the town below, people lived or worked in the sunny rooms upstairs. Today, that busy factory energy has transformed into pure, tranquil warmth... but the past is never far away.

🗝️ Whispers of History in the Soil

Whenever we spend a quiet afternoon gardening, the ground still yields little treasures from centuries past. We frequently uncover smoothed bits of antique ceramic pipes and tiny hand-carved sculptures buried in the dirt!

If you wander into our front garden, you’ll discover a particularly special artefact: a delicate ceramic dragon🐉. Though time has broken it into small pieces over the decades, you can still see how it was crafted to hold the ceramic pipes.

The local museum is fascinated by the artefacts we unearth here, and we are slowly piecing together every detail of the factory's past. Our dream is to one day install a dedicated metal plaque on the front wall—so every guest who visits our house can read the rich, 200-year history of the hands that built this place. 📜✨

The Case of the Stowaway Guestbook... 📖✈️

In Wonderland, even the review notebook wants to go on holiday! 😂

We recently hosted the wonderful family all the way from Wisconsin, USA. They were incredibly kind, warm, and responsible guests ❤️

But our little guestbook decided to become a sneaky "stowaway" in their bags! They discovered it in Edinburgh, and it’s currently traveling back home to Berwick by post. 📮

The family is safely back home with their cats 🐱🐱, and we hope they return one day. We can't wait for future guests to write the next chapters in our newly returned book!
