Historic 'deal' for tenants is going to bring huge changes for HMO landlords!
The UK has released outline details of the renters reform white paper in what they call a bid for a fairer private rented sector.
This is a major shake up with proposals such as the abolishment of section 21 notices, changes to rules around accepting pets, arbitrary rent review clauses, doubling notice periods on rent increases and giving tenants stronger powers to challenge.
This will also likely bring changes to tenancies by moving all tenants onto a single system of periodic tenancies, meaning they can leave poor quality housing without remaining liable for the rent or move more easily when their circumstances change.
And furthermore local Councils will have stronger powers to tackle the worst offenders, backed by enforcement pilots, and increasing fines for serious offences.
In recent months a HMO landlord was fined £480,000 by the council for not being compliant!
This news only adds more stress onto the minefield of letting your property, With 168 laws and 400 regulations already having to be adhered to - now is the time to be absolutely sure you are running a compliant tenancy.
