National Housing Group

National Housing Group NHG acquires and develops property to a high standard and sustainable quality. Often those who managed to get housing were placed in unsuitable accommodation.

Then, through the partnerships we have with organisations such as housing associations, councils and charities we let the properties out to those in need. About National Housing Group

National Housing Group (NHG) was founded in January 2020 to help tackle the housing shortage and homelessness crisis in the UK. NHG understood that there was a lack of property and high-quality housing available as

a permanent solution. We also provide the necessary construction and refurbishment services and go above and beyond by providing internet and housing management support to the tenants. Our focus is on working with individuals who often find it challenging to secure permanent housing. They are sometimes neglected and usually the last to be housed. By placing those without a social network into a permanent home, will improve their quality of living and has mental and physical health benefits. Since its inception, NHG has housed 35 people in permanent residences. By the end of 2020, we are on track for this to increase to 64. We have worked with over ten different housing associations, including Single Homeless Project, St Mungos, and Mace. Our team has a combined 50 years of property experience, and between us, we have housed thousands of people into permanent homes. Our experience and knowledge of the industry allow us to find suitable properties for development and create and develop relationships which ultimately leads to housing more people.

Recently Nicholas Arthur, director of partnership here at the National Housing Group, had the pleasure of sharing insight into the reality of the state of social housing with Inside Housing.

We are continuously fighting the uphill battle of finding suitable housing for those who have nowhere else to go, and now, as with many providers, we find ourselves having to look further afield for appropriate housing and move people miles away from their homes.

If you are interested in reading more about the current struggles being faced, the impact our work has had and why more needs to be done, you can find the full article here: https://www.insidehousing.co.uk/comment/people-need-a-home-now-but-sometimes-the-only-option-we-have-is-to-house-them-miles-from-normality-83714.

A recent housing fuel poverty index provided by Switchee revealed that 1 in 4 people in social housing were affected by fuel poverty last winter.

Fuel poverty refers to households who have to spend a high proportion of their household income in order to keep their home at a reasonable temperature. Being in fuel poverty can mean that people choose to reduce and ration their heating, or not heat their homes at all. This can have worrying impacts on children, the elderly, the vulnerable, the disabled and the unwell.

In our blogpost we break down what fuel poverty is further and what can be done about it, the full blog can be found here: https://thenhg.com/what-is-fuel-poverty-and-what-can-be-done-about-it/.

Homelessness doesn’t just refer to sleeping on the streets but it also includes people without a permanent home. This could mean anyone living in temporary housing, hostels or sofa-surfing.

There are multiple reasons why people become homeless, in today’s post we share five of the most common causes.

A staggering 71.40% increase in homelessness has been recorded since 2010, this stat among the many others is why we are trying to play our part in providing more social housing to meet the demand, as well as provide permanent solutions.

If you have any properties that are available for purchase, that meets our criteria so that we are able to continue housing people then please get in contact with a member of our team at:

Last week Nicholas Arthur had the opportunity to attend the two-day Housing Association Partnership Network (HAPN) learning and networking event.

This event brought together leaders and suppliers from the housing sector to share insightful knowledge and experiences, where they also address some of the most relevant and emerging challenges in the sector.

It was great to be surrounded by familiar faces and also have the chance to meet and introduce everything we do here at the National Housing Group to new acquaintances. Thank you for having us, we look forward to the next event!

A homeless rough sleeper is nine times more likely to commit su***de than the average person (statistic taken from Streets of London).

Here at the National Housing Group we know first-hand just how much homelessness can affect someone's mental health, which is why we’re working hard in partnership with housing associations, councils and charities to let our properties out to those in need.

Starting over isn’t easy. Living with mental health issues, addiction or at risk of homelessness can have a huge toll on a person’s wellbeing. But providing someone with a home and the right level of support can make an incredible difference – and that’s exactly what happens at Faringdon Lodge.

Today is World Homeless Day and in order to help raise awareness on how much work still needs to be done, we’re sharing three facts that give insight into the state of the homelessness crisis in the UK.

These shocking stats and figures are the reason we’re determined to continue to play our part at the National Housing Group. Through acquiring and developing properties, we’re able to address the lack of high quality housing available as permanent solutions.

Therefore, to help us meet the housing demand we need to acquire more, we are a cash purchaser and can complete transactions quickly. We’re looking for properties on a national level provided they meet the criteria. If you feel that you may have a property suitable for us and are looking to sell, get in touch for an informal discussion without obligation.

We’re looking for the following properties:

Blocks of self contained flats – ideally studios or small 1 beds
Office blocks – with or without PD approvals
Unbroken freeholds
Commercial and mixed use freeholds
Land with scope for residential planning gains

From inception, National Housing Group has focused on sustainability.

A great case study example we have is our Faringdon Lodge property where 52 solar panels were installed. Unlike coal, oil, or gas, solar panels produce clean energy, helping users prevent up to 0.9 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere every year.

On top of this, solar panels can significantly reduce household energy bills, which will make a huge difference to low-income tenants – especially with the recent energy crisis. On average, a solar PV system can save households around £520 per year on energy bills.

If you have any properties that are available for purchase and want to help continue to provide affordable social housing that produces clean energy, please get in touch if your properties meet our criteria.

Our focus is on working with vulnerable individuals who are often neglected and find it challenging to secure housing. Placing those without a social network into permanent homes improves their quality of living and has mental and physical health benefits. In this way, NHG has a social and environmental impact.

Over the years we’ve developed a fine-tune process that has helped us to house multiple people, in today’s post we’re sharing a simple breakdown to give you further into what we do and how we do it.
