Room Fix Ep 02 - Tom’s flat in Brisbane. New baby, no time, awkward bathroom with diagonal bath + sink and a dark hallway utility that ruined the flow.

My fix: Move the door, keep the toilet plumbing where it is, add double vanity to hide it, bath on left wall, and make that utility double-depth with lights so it’s functional AND pretty.

No huge disruption, no moving expensive plumbing, just flow 10x better.

This was our previous home - a tiny house we extended out the back, the side and into the loft.

It sounds like a lot, and it was, but the reason it added over £300k in value wasn’t just because it got bigger. A bigger tiny house can still feel tiny if the flow is wrong.

What made the difference was the flow. Before it felt cramped and awkward. After, everything connected properly and the whole house felt 10x bigger than it actually is.

We kept finishes timeless and styled it to feel like home, not just an extension.

It’s the same thing I look for in Room Fixes now - flow first, then finishes.

THE ROOM FIX - EP.02 | LORNA, SUSSEX

Lorna sent this one in. Super awkward room and she might move in the next couple of years, so she does not want to break the bank. Just quick updates to make it feel calm until she decides.

What I would do:

Left alcove: board it up and skim it flat. Right now it just adds clutter.

Fireplace: keep it simple, repaint the surround in soft white and add a chunky oak piece on top for a new mantel. Modernises it without replacing the whole thing.

Right side: everything is floating. The dream if you stay longer is joinery up to the ceiling, open shelves for baskets, cupboards up top and TV on a bracket hidden inside a cupboard so you can close it away.

Rug: too small, you can see all the edges. Go much bigger so the whole sofa sits on it, or at least the front legs, and it comes just past the hearth. That zones the seating properly.

From awkward and bitty to smooth and calm, without spending a fortune.

Sunday Scheme 01 - a calm kids room that grows with them
I wanted to show you how I’d pull this one together:

Tongue & groove in Paint & Paper Library Stone II with a little oak shelf, Bauwerk limewash in Chickpea above for that soft, lived-in texture. Nordic Knots rug - neutral with the little cross detail, fun but still cool and graphic. Wood floor lamp for that warm glow, and it sits in the same vein as the little tent bed - natural wood, soft fabric, that cosy camp feel.

Not babyish, not plasticky, all pieces that can move around the house later.

Save this if you’re doing a nursery / kids room.

Master ensuite - full project.

If you found me from ‘The Room Fix’ (hello and thank you!) that series is quick wins with what you have. This is what a full renovation looks like for me.

This was not a £175 Room Fix Plan - this was months of work. Planning, sourcing, samples checked on site and working with the builder. There were still a couple of questions on site - there always are - but the plan meant no expensive changes once work started.

Room Fix Plan (£175) is the starting point of this process - one room, layout + visual direction + 3-5 key fixes so you can move forward yourself. You do the ordering.

THE ROOM FIX - EP.01

New series - you send me the room that feels off, I tell you what it actually needs.

Starting with this living room - very dark, felt heavy. Long term it does need new furniture, but he wanted an easy, instant fix without starting over.

What we suggest (two instant fixes)

- Walls in ‘Jitney’ by F&B - that warm putty colour, not white - lifts it without going stark
- Soft furnishings swapped to ochres and tans, print and pattern from OKA, to warm it up and bounce the light
Same furniture, much lighter room.

Guest bathrooms should never be boring.

They’re one of the few rooms where you can be a little braver, have more fun with colour and create something guests genuinely remember.

For this client, the brief was all about personality. The rest of the house already had beautiful colour running through it, so we pulled those tones into this space and gave the bathroom its own moment.

It still needed to feel connected to the house - just with a little more drama.

For me, the best guest bathrooms feel unexpected, considered and completely intentional.

The room guests never expect ✨

This guest bathroom is one of the first rooms you see when you walk into the house, so it felt like the perfect place to do something a little more unexpected.

My client loves colour, personality and beautiful details, so rather than keeping it safe, we pulled tones from elsewhere in the house and gave this room its own little moment.

For me, guest bathrooms are one of the best places to be brave. They can still feel connected to the rest of the home, but they give you permission to have a little more fun.

Yesterday I asked what your biggest interior design challenge was, and one answer came back more than any other…

How do you make one room work for multiple purposes without it feeling cluttered or chaotic?

This is actually one of my favourite design challenges.

Whenever I’m planning a multifunctional room, I always start by asking one question:

What’s this room going to be used for 80% of the time?

Once you’ve answered that, the rest of the decisions become so much easier.

Whether it’s a home office that needs to double as a guest room, or a playroom that also needs to feel like part of your home, it’s all about designing for the room’s main purpose first and then layering in everything else thoughtfully.

Small decisions like this make a huge difference to how a home feels to live in.
