Why I Never Cut Corners on Stain Blocking π«
Water damage leaves behind stubborn brown tide marks that no amount of standard paint will hide β and that's exactly what I was dealing with on this job.
Here's something most people don't realise:
**painting over a water stain simply doesn't work.**
The deposits left behind are water-soluble, meaning any water-based topcoat reactivates them. The stain bleeds straight back through, and you're back to square one.
There are stain blockers out there β water-based, oil-based β and they all have their place. But for water staining, I go straight to the nuclear option:
π« shellac-based stain block π«
It forms an almost impenetrable seal, locking stains in completely so nothing bleeds back through.
Once cured, I recoated the area with a quality finish β and as you can see from the after shots, you'd never know there was ever an issue.
That's the Fine Finish standard. β
