Today (18 June) is Clean Air Day - a chance to focus on the air we all share and why it matters for our health, especially for children, older people, and those with breathing conditions.

Across Dorset, air quality remains good overall. We monitor it throughout the year as part of our legal duty to protect people’s health, tracking a range of pollutants across the county. Our 2025 Annual Status Report has been submitted to government and will be published once reviewed.

Where monitoring identifies a local issue, we take targeted action. We have identified one such hotspot, mainly linked to vehicle emissions. The encouraging news is that pollution levels here continue to fall, as more people switch to cleaner engines and electric vehicles.

We have also recently completed a government-funded project looking at emissions from solid fuel burning. Practical advice on this is available on our website for anyone wanting to make cleaner choices at home.

We recognise the strong local concern around the proposed Powerfuel incinerator in Portland. In response, we are increasing our monitoring in the area to gather more detailed information about existing air pollution levels. This will help ensure we have clear, reliable evidence.

Clean air benefits everyone and protecting it is a shared effort. Small everyday changes - like driving less, avoiding engine idling, or choosing cleaner fuels at home - can make a real difference.

You can find simple, practical steps to help improve air quality on the Clean Air Hub. Link below.

🚲 eBike Update – Bridport Neighbourhood Policing Team

We’re aware of the concerns within our community regarding the use of eBikes, particularly where they are being ridden dangerously or used in the commission of offences. Please be reassured that we are working hard to identify and deal with offenders, with a clear focus on those committing dangerous driving offences.

We share your concerns and understand the impact this behaviour has on the community. Tackling this issue is a priority for us, and our approach is intelligence-led to ensure we are targeting the right individuals effectively.

Stopping riders of eBikes must always be done in a safe and proportionate manner—for members of the public, our officers, and the rider themselves—so there will be times when immediate intervention is not appropriate.

Following a recent incident over the weekend, a bike has been seized and enquiries are ongoing as part of our investigation. We can confirm that the seized eBike will not be returned to the owner and will be destroyed. This action highlights our commitment to disrupting this behaviour and holding those responsible to account.

We need your help. Please continue to work with us by providing any information you may have, including:
- Sightings of suspicious or dangerous use of eBikes
- Details of offences being committed
- Information that may help identify riders or associated addresses

You can report information via:
📞 101
💻 Dorset Police website
🔒 Crimestoppers (100% anonymous)

Your information makes a real difference—thank you for your continued support.

The theme for 2026 is "Do you see me?" which is a powerful reminder that people with a learning disability deserve to be seen, heard, and valued for who they are.

Take a look at our website learning disability and autism pages, which offer useful information for individuals, families, and professionals. These pages include person stories, videos, Easy Read resources and guidance on what to expect from an annual health check, and much more: https://nhsdorset.nhs.uk/health/learning-disability-and-autism/

🚨 Bridport Neighbourhood Policing Team 🚨

Officers have seized an illegal e-bike following reports of dangerous riding in Bridport Town Centre.

The rider was stopped after being seen travelling in a manner that posed a risk to members of the public. He has since been arrested on suspicion of:
- Dangerous Driving
- Driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence
- Driving with no third-party insurance

During the arrest, he was also found to be in possession of a controlled substance.

The e-bike has been seized under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act 1988.

⚠️ Why this matters:
Illegal e-bikes are often heavier and capable of far greater speeds than legally compliant models. Some can travel at speeds comparable to mopeds or motorcycles. When used irresponsibly—especially in busy pedestrian areas—they pose a serious danger and have been linked to serious injuries and fatalities in collisions.

We continue to take a zero-tolerance approach to dangerous and illegal use of e-bikes and similar vehicles, especially where it puts the public at risk in busy areas.

✅ Please remember:
- Some e-bikes are classed as motor vehicles if they do not meet legal requirements
- Riders may require a licence, insurance, and registration

If you have concerns about anti-social or dangerous driving in your area, please report it to us.

A fantastic day so far. Thank you to the amazing acts whom have entertained us throughout the afternoon Harvey Causley & Dorset Galaxy Discos and to Shelby's Elbows for doing their thing and absolutely rocking the early evening set. Still the main headline act to go with The Leggomen and plenty of beer and cider still to drink so come on down! 🍻🍻
