We were delighted to sponsor this year's Sussex Law Society Ball at The Grand Brighton.

The evening was a fantastic celebration of the Sussex business community, bringing together over 280 solicitors, firms, barristers chambers and local business professionals from across the region.

Angela Arnold, President of Sussex Law Society, delivered an excellent speech sharing her vision for the year ahead. Tony Pearson and Andy Stenning were pleased to attend on behalf of Sussex Surveyors and support this important event in the Sussex business calendar.

Thinking about extending your lease? Understanding what affects the valuation is key.

Several factors can influence the cost of a lease extension, including:
• The number of years remaining on your lease
• The current value of your property
• Ground rent provisions within the lease
• Marriage value (which may apply when a lease falls below 80 years)

Every property is different, and obtaining professional advice can help you understand your options and avoid unexpected costs.

At Sussex Surveyors, we provide expert lease extension valuations to help leaseholders make informed decisions with confidence.

Get in touch with our team today to discuss your property.

Tony Pearson was delighted to attend the recent Property Matters Lunch, hosted by The Jonathan Lea Network in partnership with Sussex Surveyors.

Held at The Hayloft, the event brought together professionals from across the property sector for an enjoyable afternoon of networking, collaboration and relationship building. It was great to connect with both familiar faces and new contacts from across the industry.

A particular highlight was hearing from Mary Kemp of AI Potential, who delivered an engaging introduction to the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence. Her presentation provided valuable insight into how AI is influencing businesses today and the opportunities it presents for the property sector in the years ahead.

Thank you to The Jonathan Lea Network for co-hosting another excellent event, and to Carnegie Group for sponsoring the drinks.

We look forward to continuing the conversation and seeing everyone again at future Property Matters events.

Older properties are full of character, but they can also hide costly structural issues if warning signs are missed.

At Sussex Surveyors, we believe property advice should be proactive, not reactive. Identifying potential defects early can help homeowners, buyers and investors avoid unexpected repair bills and make informed decisions with confidence.

Some of the most common structural defects we encounter in older properties include:
• Cracking caused by movement or subsidence
• Damp pe*******on and timber decay
• Roof spread and failing roof structures
• Bulging walls and deteriorating brickwork
• Structural movement linked to ageing foundations
• Issues caused by historic alterations or extensions

Not every crack is serious, but understanding the difference between cosmetic issues and signs of structural concern is where experienced surveying advice becomes invaluable.

Whether you are purchasing a period property, planning renovations or simply want peace of mind, early guidance can save significant time, stress and expense later on.

If you would like expert advice on a property you own or are looking to purchase, contact Sussex Surveyors today to discuss how we can help.

Chichester Cathedral’s recent roof restoration is a reminder that no property is truly “maintenance-free.” Water ingress from ageing roofing materials had started causing damage to timber, masonry, and interiors - an issue many homeowners face on a smaller scale.

In Chichester, older homes and conservation areas can be especially vulnerable to:
• ageing roofs
• weathered stonework
• hidden damp and structural issues

At Sussex Surveyors, we regularly identify early signs of defects before they become costly repairs. Preventative maintenance, and a professional survey, can save homeowners thousands in the long run.

Thinking of buying or concerned about your property?

We help homeowners and buyers across Chichester, Brighton, Eastbourne & Haywards Heath with expert, independent advice.
