From building sites to building surveys…

Ashley Tucknott surveying career is underpinned by a wealth of practical property experience.

Before qualifying, Ashley gained hands-on experience working on residential building projects while studying Building Surveying at the University of Brighton. He became an Associate Member of RICS and an RICS Registered Valuer in 2014, before going on to build extensive surveying experience across East Sussex.

Ashley joined Sussex Surveyors in 2024 and now carries out Building Surveys, HomeBuyer Reports and residential valuations.

His combination of practical building knowledge, surveying expertise and in-depth local property experience makes him a valuable addition to the team.

When preparing to sell, it’s easy to focus on presentation – fresh paint, tidy rooms and making sure everything looks its best for photographs and viewings.

But what about the things a buyer’s surveyor may notice?

Blocked or damaged gutters, slipped roof tiles, cracked render, signs of damp, deteriorating external timber or those small maintenance jobs that have been on the list for a while could all be highlighted during a survey.

That doesn’t mean you need to fix every imperfection before putting your property on the market. However, understanding its condition and dealing with sensible maintenance beforehand can help reduce the chance of unexpected questions, further investigations or negotiations later in the sale.

A little preparation before going to market could help make the whole process smoother for everyone involved.
