One thing that’s easy to overlook when you’re planning a move? Parking 🚚

It’s worth thinking about where the removal van will be able to park at both your old and new homes. A narrow road, parking restrictions or cars lining the street can make getting larger furniture in and out a bit more difficult.

It’s also worth considering the distance between the parking space and your front door. You might not think twice about carrying a couple of boxes that extra distance, but it’s a different story when you’re moving an entire house!

When you book with Move On, this is something we take into account during your survey, along with access to both properties, so we know what to expect on moving day.

We’ve all got that one piece of furniture that becomes considerably more awkward when it’s time to move. The wardrobe that seemed perfectly manageable when you bought it, the sofa that somehow fit through the front door last time or the dining table that now looks far too wide for the hallway.

Large and awkward furniture can sometimes need to be dismantled before it can be safely moved, particularly when there are narrow staircases or tricky access to deal with.

Moving in Bath? Insurance really matters, especially with period properties 🏛️📦

There are two types of cover worth checking before you book a removals company.

👉 Goods in transit covers your possessions, from the piano and paintings to the contents of every box.

👉 Public liability covers damage to the property itself, such as wallpaper, cornices, stonework, glass and those beautiful details you really don’t want anyone taking chances with.

A company can have one without the other, and even if they have both, the cover level needs to be right for the job. A modern semi and a Grade II listed townhouse aren’t quite the same thing.

Our advice? Ask to see the insurance certificates before you book. Any company worth booking should be happy to send them over.

At Move On, insurance is included as standard, not sold as an extra on the day. We carry up to £100,000 goods in transit cover per move at no extra charge, which can be increased for a minimal cost when needed, plus £5 million public liability cover.
