The stories behind Kingsley Hall are starting to take shape. 🎧

Over the last few sessions of the oral history project, our young people have been digging deeper into the themes they’re interested in, while identifying local experts and organisations who could help bring those stories to life.

They’ve now formed groups and chosen their themes, and next up they’ll be getting hands-on with the recording kit, practising their interviewing skills with some mock interviews before the real conversations begin.

We can’t wait to hear what they uncover!

Tonight, you know where you’re sleeping. What if you didn’t?

For many of us, knowing where we’ll sleep is something we never have to think twice about. But for young people facing homelessness, not knowing where they’ll sleep each night can be a reality.
On Thursday 5 November, Bristol will come together for our annual Sleep Out - swapping the comfort of a bed for a sleeping bag for one night to stand alongside young people experiencing homelessness.

🏙️ Join Bristol’s biggest Sleep Out for young people facing homelessness.

📍 Lloyds Amphitheatre, Bristol

“Young people are not snowflakes.”

That was the message from the head of a major review into young people’s mental health, in a BBC News article this week.

It got us thinking about some of the conversations we’ve had with young people about the assumptions people make about them.

Lazy. Difficult. Irresponsible. Immature.

These are some of the stereotypes young people told us they come across.
But when we asked them how they would describe themselves, they chose words like:

âś…Driven.
âś…Open-minded.
âś…Determined.
âś…Leaders.

There’s a lot more to being young today than the stereotypes we often hear.

Young people are growing up against a backdrop of rising living costs, uncertainty around education and employment, social media and growing pressures on mental health.

So rather than making assumptions about young people, perhaps we should be listening to what they have to say about their own experiences.

Because who better to tell us what it’s like to be a young person today than young people themselves?

A huge thank you to the team at Andrews for going the extra mile for young people facing homelessness! đź’™

A couple of weeks ago, a team from Andrews took on an almost 11km Weighted Walk from their head office in Saltford to ours in Old Market, carrying rucksacks filled with essential items for young people we support.

Thank you to everyone who took part, carried the extra weight and donated essential items along the way. We really appreciate your support and everything you’re doing to help young people.

We’re looking forward to seeing how the rest of the Andrews team gets on with their September Weighted Walks!

That’s over 1,900 young people in our city who could be facing an uncertain future without the right support.

On Thursday 5 November, we’re asking Bristol to stop and think about that question: Where will you sleep tonight?

Join us for Bristol’s biggest Sleep Out for young people facing homelessness. Swap your bed for a sleeping bag for one night, raise vital funds and stand alongside young people who don’t have the security of a safe place to call home.

A big thank you to Tesco Keynsham! 📚

Earlier this year, the team hosted a brilliant book sale to raise money for 1625, bringing the local community together to pick up a good read while supporting young people facing homelessness.

It’s another great example of how community support doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes, it’s about using the space, resources or opportunities you already have to do something positive for your local community.

Would you like to get involved?

If you’re a business, community group or individual and would like to get involved, we’d love to start a conversation!

Sometimes community support can start at school 🏫

We’re really pleased to be working with Cabot Learning Federation Post 16 again this year, with students finding some brilliant ways to support young people facing homelessness.

From fundraising events to a movie night, their support is helping raise money and awareness for 1625, while giving students a chance to get involved in something that makes a difference in their local community.

As CLF Post 16 put it:

“Every young person deserves the opportunity to feel safe, supported, and empowered to achieve their potential.”

They recognise that young people can face challenges both inside and outside of education, and the important role that support can play in helping them move forward.

And they’re not stopping there. They already have three fundraising events planned for the academic year, with the hope of raising even more for 1625.

It’s a great example of how community support can start anywhere, including in a classroom, a school hall or at a movie night.

What could you do?

If you’re a business, community group or individual and would like to get involved, we’d love to hear your ideas.
