Stanton Drew roundhouse dates from the late 18th century, around 1793, and was originally built as a turnpike toll house by the West Harptree Turnpike Trust. The roads around Stanton Drew were once turnpike roads, where travellers were charged for using the maintained highway.

The toll collector would live in the tiny house and collect payments from passing travellers. Historical accounts describe a pouch hanging by the entrance into which coach drivers paid their tolls.

The Snug is a short drive from our local city of Bath. Many guests visit this wonderful city. The autumn is a great time of year as the summer crowds start to quieten down.

Many of our guests bring there bikes with them to enjoy the beautiful scenery around Chew Valley & Blagdon lake. But also to visit the Mendip Hills and Cheddar Gorge. The Chew Valley area of Somerset is a bike riders dream.
