I beg your pardon. I never promised you a rose garden. So sang somebody who turns out to NOT be Elvis Costello (my bad, he did another rose garden song). What I did promise you, though, is a four-bedroom semi in for less than £400,000. And here it is, in Salem Road. £375,000. It does need some tlc (and more,you might want to start with the back garden), but offers spacious accommodation at a competitive price. This year marks the centenary of one of the world’s most beloved fictional characters: A A Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh. And, here in Bristol, you have the chance to own a little piece of that history.

Tucked away in Clifton is 1 Wellington Terrace, BS8 — a quirky and historic two-bedroom home that was once a tea shop known locally as “Pooh Corner”.

The story goes that A A Milne and E H Shepard — the illustrator responsible for the original Winnie-the-Pooh drawings — met there to discuss and finalise the artwork for the famous bear and his friends. Whether every detail of the tale is entirely true has long been debated, but what is known is that Shepard created just one oil painting of Pooh, which was presented to the tea shop and displayed there proudly for many years.

The café eventually closed in the 1960s and the painting was later sold at auction, but the building itself remains.
