Over £1,200 raised for Bury Hospice as Corrie star picks the winners of Children's 'Colour your Home' Competition
Actress Sally Carmen, a patron of Bury Hospice and more commonly known for playing Abi Franklin on Coronation Street, took time out of her busy schedule to select the winners of Keenans Bury’s recent ‘Colour Your Home’ competition which raised over £1,200 for Bury Hospice.
The competition saw children from Reception class, Year One and Year Two from 19 different Bury schools, decorate a mini cut out house either as their own house or an imaginary one, which was then taken home, with families asked to donate a minimum of £1 per box.
A total of over £1,200 was raised for Bury Hospice, with heart-warming stories of children partaking in additional chores around their house to fill the boxes.
Sally said: “It’s been a delight to judge the Keenans ‘colour your home’ school competition. I am absolutely bowled over by the talent of these youngsters, choosing the finalists was really hard!
“Well done to everyone who took part, you are all doing your bit to support Bury Hospice, who help people of all ages across Bury. Thank you!”
The competition also had some wonderful prizes up for grabs including a family break to a lodge at Gulliver's World in Warrington for the winner, with the runners-up able to enjoy free entry to Gulliver’s Theme Parks with their family.
After an extremely difficult judging process, Corrie actress Sally awarded first place to Libby Rose Turner from Guardian Angels RC Primary School, whilst the runners-up were Jaeden Hussain from Bury and Whitefield Jewish Primary School, Molly Loster from Our Lady of Lourdes RC Primary School, Isabel Nash from Springside Primary School and Ava Jolly from St Mary’s Primary.
Faye Broadley, Area Manager for Keenans, commented: “Here at Keenans we really care about the local community and seeing all the local children showing so much enthusiasm for Bury Hospice and enjoying themselves, really epitomises the community spirit we have here. The winners were so lovely when we called in to each school to present their prizes.”
Rachel Wallace from Bury Hospice, added: “We have been overwhelmed by the response to the Keenans ‘Colour Your Home’ competition!
“All the treatment and services we provide are free. At no point does anyone need to pay for anything, but that money has to come from somewhere. We’re here for the community and it’s only because of amazing donations like this that we can continue to operate.
“We would like to say a massive thank you to Keenans for organising this fantastic competition and also to the children, parents and schools for showing such incredible passion in supporting their local hospice.”
