The Dream of Owning a Home Is Still Alive. The Wait Is Getting Longer
Despite everything you might hear about younger people giving up on homeownership, the ambition remains remarkably strong.

The English Housing Survey reveals that 69% of renters aged 18 to 34 still expect to buy a home eventually. However, for many, it feels like a distant goal rather than an imminent move. Among those expecting to buy, 49% believe it will take five years or more. Another 34% expect to purchase within two to five years, while 11% believe they will buy within one to two years. The remaining 6% expect to buy within the next year.

The dream has not disappeared. It is simply being delayed by the challenge of saving a deposit, finding an affordable home and securing a suitable mortgage. If buying is part of your future, even if it feels several years away, starting the conversation early could help turn that distant ambition into a realistic plan.
