My wonderful Belle went to Leahurst Animal Hospital in Liverpool yesterday. She’s been battling a stubborn abscess for months that just wouldn’t stop draining, which sadly led to supporting limb laminitis in her other hoof, and the abscess itself has damaged the hoof wall. Tomorrow, they’ll be putting her under to investigate further and carry out surgery on the hoof, hopefully setting her right again. General anaesthetic is always risky with horses, so we’re keeping absolutely everything crossed that it all goes smoothly. She’s the ultimate family horse, she’s brought so much joy to our lives and made this big move so much easier. She’s so much more than just a horse to us.

Oh, we’ve got another Biscuit on our hands. Little Lamb was orphaned and wouldn’t take the bottle, so she went straight onto creep feed. She wasn't thriving, but she was getting by,until she went missing a few weeks ago.

After days of searching, a neighbour spotted her way up the mountain. We climbed up again on the third day with no luck, sat by the river to regroup, and then Erin shouted “Mum, she’s next to you!”, of all the places we could've stopped, she was literally laying next to us.

Hidden in the reeds, she was barely alive, covered in flies, stinking, not moving. We carried her home and found the worst case of flystrike we’ve ever seen. Maggots had eaten most of the skin on her back end.

We didn’t think she’d survive but treated her anyway shearing, pain relief, antibiotics. She got worse. By night she couldn’t lift her head or open her eyes. We expected the worst.

But the next morning… she was up. Eating. Standing. We couldn’t believe it. Still a long way to go, but she’s fighting.

We're keeping everything crossed for little lamb🤞
