I thought maternity leave meant you got to stop.
Then I became a mum while being self-employed.

At 6 weeks postpartum, I was already answering emails, between feeds, broken sleep and whatever energy I had left.

Not because I was ready.

Because there was no full pay waiting for me.

No employer keeping things ticking over.

Just my business… and the reality that if I didn’t go back, no one else would.

I’ve been self-employed for 4 years, and I’m still waiting 19 months later for money I’m entitled to claim.

This is the part of self-employed motherhood people don’t talk about enough.
