We’re just four days away from releasing the details of The Cornwall Bicycle Project’s 2026 Christmas Campaign! 🎅

This will be our third year running the campaign, helping make bicycles more affordable for parents this Christmas. The last two years have been hugely successful, and we’re hoping for another fantastic year! 🎁

We often run out, so this year, we’re getting started earlier than ever, and our range of children’s bicycles is already starting to build. 🚲

Advanced Notice- No servicing in November

We have been flat out with servicing and repairs recently. It's become clear to us that everybody has had a good summer of riding, given some of the defects that we've been finding with bicycles and general wear and tear it's clear people have been riding lot's.

It's been lovely hearing customer stories of where they've been to on their travels, including a pair that bought a tandem off us back in the summer and cycled around Pembrokeshire for a few weeks.

It's lovely to hear that bikes donated to us, some that their owners felt never had a life ahead of them, have been renovated and given a new lease.

This is just a bit of a few little photos of things that we found on people's bikes this week, from snapped derailleurs, loose brakes, snapped spokes to worn pulley wheels.

This is also a bit of advanced notice, but we will not be taking on any service work in the workshops in November.

Therefore, if you wish to get a service in with us, be sure to come in in October and use our affordable services.

The reason why we're not servicing in November? Well, we'll that information will be released shortly. But we have something big planned for the end of the year 🎅.

Huge thank you to Tanya and the gang at RTA Recovery and garage services on Boiler Works road in Camborne.

Our van MOT ran out last week and they managed to get us in on Monday at super short notice.

🚲 What level of service does my bicycle need?

This is a question we get asked regularly at the The Cornwall Bicycle Project Workshops

We offer 3 levels-
£45 Bronze
£85 Silver
£125 Gold

Before you even leave the shop, there are a few important checks we carry out to help us understand the condition of your bike and give you an accurate idea of what may need doing.

🔧 We’ll check:
• The condition and remaining life of your brake pads or brake blocks
• Wheel bearings
• Headset bearings
• Bottom bracket bearings
• And, importantly, your chain for wear

So, why is checking the chain so important? Often, customers can assume the chain looks fine on appearance, however in the video below we show a chain we removed this week, compared to a new one.

A worn or “stretched” chain, like the one shown in the video, can cause increased poor shifting and wear across the rest of your drivetrain. If it’s left too long, it can rapidly wear expensive components such as your cassette and chain rings.

By checking your chain and the other key components, we can identify potential problems early and give you a much more accurate idea of what your service is likely to cost, helping you avoid unexpected expenses further down the line.

🚲✨ What an absolutely buzzing final evening workshop at Camborne! ✨🚲

What a way to finish our eight evening workshops for 2026 at the Camborne Unit, hosted by Anthony and Mark! 🙌

This time, we held a ladies-only evening, with six fantastic attendees joining us and what a brilliant atmosphere it was! 💪🚲 There was a real buzz in the room, plenty of laughter, and some serious confidence boosting along the way.
We covered everything from:

🔧 Removing bicycle wheels
🛞 Fixing punctures
🧼 Cleaning and looking after your bicycle
⚙️ Troubleshooting gearing issues
🛑 Checking brake pads

It was a really lovely evening, and it was fantastic to see everyone getting stuck in, learning new skills and building confidence with their bikes.

From everyone at the Cornwall Bicycle Project, we really hope that everyone who has attended one of our workshops this year has had a fantastic time and, most importantly, that you've learned something new and gone away feeling a little more confident with your bicycle. ❤️

There’s been a real buzz this week as our students returned after a long summer break!

It’s been fantastic welcoming back our returning students and meeting some new faces too. After a bumper week, with eleven students with us, it’s been brilliant to get stuck into some new projects using customer-donated bikes and frames collected over the summer.

Some of our students were particularly excited to see frames we’d kept back especially for them to rebuild, it’s always great seeing that enthusiasm when they get started on a project they’re really looking forward to.

For some, it’s the beginning of a completely new journey as they start their first AQA qualification. For others, it’s about returning to take on the next level and continue building their skills.

Whatever stage of the journey they’re on, there’s always a real energy and buzz when the workshops come alive again.

And, as always, we absolutely love teaching! 🔧🚲
