Life can bring its own pressures. Worrying about money, feeling isolated or simply struggling to cope can be a lot to carry, and not everyone finds it easy to reach out when things get hard.

Today is World Su***de Prevention Day and it is a reminder that none of us should have to face difficult times alone. At Ore Valley Housing Association we are not just here to keep a roof over heads. We genuinely care about the people who live in our homes and the communities around them. Sometimes that means a conversation at the door, a check in call or simply knowing that there is someone who will listen without judgement.

We are so incredibly proud of our colleague Maryjane who gives her own time as a Samaritans volunteer. It reflects exactly the kind of organisation we want to be, one where compassion is not just a word on a wall but something people actually live by.

Greener Kirkcaldy is running a free Smart Cooking programme at The Lang Spoon Community Kitchen, 8 East Fergus Place, Kirkcaldy — every Tuesday morning, 10am–12pm, for 5 weeks from 25th August to 22nd September 2026.

Sessions are friendly, hands-on and cover: practical cooking skills, food shopping and meal planning, food storage and using up leftovers, managing household bills and budgets with Citizens Advice & Rights Fife, and energy saving in the kitchen and home with Cosy Kingdom.

It's a great way to pick up low-cost, energy-efficient cooking skills in a relaxed group setting. There are a limited number of spaces still available, so get in touch soon if you'd like to take part.

💚 Today is Samaritans Awareness Day 💚

Every year on 24 July, Samaritans reminds us all that they're here 24/7 — day or night, whatever you're going through. It's a vital, life-saving service, and at Ore Valley Housing Association we're proud to stand behind the incredible work they do.

We're especially proud to share that one of our very own team, MaryJane, gives her time as a Samaritans volunteer 💛 — answering calls and being there for people in their hardest moments. Thank you, MaryJane, for everything you do.

Next Chapter Scotland is a lived-experience-led organisation supporting people affected by the justice system, including people with convictions, people under investigation and families and loved ones.

We provide clear, accessible information, practical guidance and emotional support to help people navigate the personal, financial and social impact of justice system involvement.

Our approach is rights-based, trauma-informed and non-judgemental, with a focus on reducing stigma, isolation and harm.

We also deliver training and advocacy work to help improve understanding of the realities people face and to support fairer, more informed responses across communities and services.

Through our employability and enterprise arm, NC: Collective, we work to create pathways into safe and sustainable work by connecting people with socially aware employers and supporting individuals to move forward with confidence.

Our vision is of a future society where people are treated equally for who they are in the present and no one’s future is defined by their past.
