Most of all, we pride ourselves on delivering to a high standard and keeping our promises. McKnight & Son is one of the longest established building firms in Carlisle. Bob McKnight started the firm in 1965 and, through hard work and determination, has built a successful and well respected business based on personal service, attention to detail, and top class workmanship. Bob built his first house in 1972 in the Morton area of the City. Over the years many hundreds of homes have been built, all with the same attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship that marks out all McKnight properties. Over the last few years Wayne McKnight has taken over management of the business and has ensured that the business continues to thrive and diversify. In 2013 the business moved into premises on Junction Street. An old, derelict, electrical warehouse and dated office area was converted into a modern, purpose built, space for use by the firm as an office, builders store and joinery workshop. The building incorporates some of the latest renewable energy systems including PV panels and a BIOMASS boiler. The workforce at McKnight & Son comprises around 30 craftsmen who all take great pride in their work. Some of the men have been working with Bob for almost 40 years. Many of the craftsmen can still use traditional methods on old listed buildings but can equally use the very latest techniques on modern buildings. The firm has a diverse range of clients and is happy to take on any work from small maintenance jobs to multi million pound contracts. The firm is particularly proud of its flagship John Robert Gardens development. In recent times the firm’s profile has been raised by its involvement in the regeneration of part of Botchergate in Carlisle and of the former Globe Public House. A substantial property portfolio has been built up with over 150 tenants spread between around 100 properties throughout Carlisle.
