Start off September at a National Trust place near you. There’s always something to see and do. Try one of these three Lake District destinations this month.
⛵ Head out onto Coniston Water for a serene lake cruise on Steam Yacht Gondola (NT). Decked out in the splendour of a bygone age, this Victorian steam yacht offers the utmost comfort and a little piece of Venice with mountain views.
🦆 Step into Beatrix Potter’s house and garden at National Trust Beatrix Potter's Hill Top, near Hawkshead, and find out about her work as protector of the Lake District landscape and the Herdwick breed. You’ll get up close to her newly restored dolls house and uncover familiar scenes which appeared in the illustrations, such as Tom Kitten’s gate and Jemima Puddle-Duck’s rhubarb patch.
📚 Discover a world of fascinating stories and objects at Townend, the Browne family’s atmospheric 17th-century farmhouse in the beautiful village of Troutbeck. Delve into the archives to see Ben Browne’s letters from London to his father back home in the 1700s, or if you’d prefer something more modern, step into the 1940s with two themed days for Heritage Open Days on the 16 & 17 September.
