Fancy a holiday? https://www.underthethatch.co.uk/corgi
Colour and natural pigments is a favourite topic of ours...
Welsh modernist architect Graham Brooks designed a cluster of holiday cabins in Pembrokeshire and Cenarth in the 1970s, UTT Caban Corgi among them. He was precise about colour. The palette he specified drew on the Danish sommerhus tradition: black timber staining, achieved with Sadolin Ebony, and a red for doors and window frames. The original specification document survives but Brooks didn't name the red. While researching the book Cabin Crew, Bethan colour-matched against the most untouched surviving cabins to confirm the closest modern match to be RAL 3031, Orient Red. Bold and graphic against the Welsh landscape, it is the kind of confident simplicity that mid-century modernism did so well, a little bit of Scandinavia in West Wales! https://www.underthethatch.co.uk/corgi
