Over 20 years ago… and it’s still standing! 🔨

This is in Helston, Cornwall, a building that myself and a friend/colleague built from the ground up, purpose-built as a restaurant alongside a golf club.

And when I say we built it, I mean we did the lot.

I lived in Cornwall for many years, and it’s where I did most of my building work and gained a lot of the hands-on experience I still use today.

Pretty cool whilst on a little holiday all these years later and being able to say…
“I built that.”

These days I’m not building restaurants from scratch 😂 but that experience is a big part of what sits behind For Pete’s Sake.

Alongside around 15 years of hands-on property maintenance, repairs and DIY, I also spent 17+ years working in mental health, supporting people through crisis, addiction, homelessness and some incredibly difficult periods of their lives.

For Pete’s Sake brings those two sides of my working life together.

Because sometimes a job that seems small can feel massive when you're struggling. And having someone come into your home isn't always easy either.

So whether you just need a job doing, need someone patient who won't judge, or simply don't know where to start…

No pressure. No judgement. Just help.

A little out of office...

If you're waiting for a reply from me, firstly, I'm sorry.

I've actually been quite hard on myself after realising I'd missed getting back to a lady on Friday evening, as I'd promised I would. It genuinely wasn't intentional, and it's not how I like to do business.

The last few weeks have been a bit of a whirlwind. Between work, some family health concerns and trying to get away for a much-needed family break, life simply got on top of me for a few days.

Family will always come first when they need me, and I hope people can understand that. That said, I also take a lot of pride in my work and in looking after my customers, so when I let someone down, even unintentionally, it genuinely bothers me.

If you've sent me a message recently, please don't think you're being ignored. I will always get back to you.

To the lady I didn't reply to on Friday evening, if you happen to see this, I'm genuinely sorry. If you haven't already found someone else, I'd still be more than happy to help.

I'm currently spending a few days in Cornwall with my family and will be back to normal from Saturday, catching up with all messages and enquiries.

If you'd like to get hold of me a little quicker in future, the best way is by phone or text:

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Before ➡️ After 🚿

It's been a while since I've posted, so here's a recent bathroom transformation.

This job involved removing the old tiles, preparing and smoothing the walls, measuring and cutting tiles to fit, and fully tiling the bathroom walls to create a clean, modern finish.

A lot of work goes into a project before the first tile even goes on the wall, but seeing the finished result makes it all worthwhile.

One of the things I enjoy most about my work is getting to know the people I'm working for too. This job came with plenty of good chats, a few laughs, and it was genuinely lovely getting to know the client along the way.

Really pleased with how this one turned out.

If you've got a job you've been putting off, a room that needs refreshing, or a home improvement project you'd like some help with, feel free to get in touch.

Whether it's tiling, decorating, repairs, flat-pack furniture, general maintenance, or something else, I'm always happy to have a chat and see if I can help.

📩 Drop me a message for a free, no-obligation quote.

Bit of a fiddly one this 😅

Lots of measuring, adjusting and taking time to make sure everything lined up nicely and flowed properly with the different tile sizes.

I actually did tiling for around 10 years across commercial and domestic jobs, so it’s nice getting jobs like this in and seeing it all come together in the end.

Grouting and more tiling to be done 👍🏻

One thing I genuinely love about doing this work though is the people side of it. Half the time it starts with “do you fancy a cuppa?” and before you know it you’ve put the world to rights while getting jobs ticked off at the same time and you’ve met the neighbours 😄

That’s a big part of why I wanted to do this properly. It’s not just about DIY or maintenance work for me. Sometimes people just want someone reliable to pop over, help with the jobs that have been stressing them out, have a normal chat and make things feel a bit lighter again.

With my background working in mental health and supporting vulnerable people for many years, I know how much the little things matter. A tidy space, getting those jobs finally sorted, having someone turn up who actually listens and treats people properly… it all makes a difference.

DBS checked and fully insured ✔️

If you need a hand with tiling, decorating, repairs, general maintenance or just want someone approachable and reliable to help take the pressure off a bit, feel free to drop me a message.

I also offer practical support based help too. Whether that’s helping someone get on top of their home again, tackling jobs that have become overwhelming, popping over for a cuppa and a chat while getting bits sorted, or simply being a friendly face that genuinely cares. Sometimes people don’t just need a tradesman, they need support, encouragement and someone who understands that life gets heavy sometimes.

Busy one last week… and I love to see it 🙌

Out on quotes, meeting some great people, and getting stuck into a few jobs along the way.

On one of the jobs:
✔️ Repurposed and rehung an old gate, solid, practical, and saved it from going to waste
✔️ Removed old guttering and installed new, clean, secure, and ready for whatever the weather throws at it

It’s not always about replacing everything… sometimes it’s just about making what you’ve got work properly again 👍

I’ve had loads of messages recently so just want to say a genuine thank you, it really doesn’t go unnoticed.

If you need a hand with anything:
• General DIY
• Repairs and maintenance
• Guttering
• Flat packs
• Those jobs you’ve been putting off

Drop me a message, happy to come take a look and quote.

Local slots available at £25ph (Cheddar & nearby)

Because getting help at home shouldn’t feel out of reach.

I know things can get on top of you sometimes… at home and financially.

I’ve spent many years working in mental health support, so I understand that sometimes it’s not just about getting jobs done, it’s about having someone calm, patient and non judgemental to help you take that first step.

I also recognise that regular contact, a bit of company, or simply knowing someone is popping round can make a real difference.

So I’m offering 2 slots per week at a reduced rate of £25 per hour, specifically for people in the local community who could do with a bit of extra support.

This will be mainly Cheddar and very local surrounding areas, as this is about giving something back.

This could be:
Flat pack furniture
General DIY
Fixing bits around the home
Shelving and wall mounting
Helping sort paperwork or organise spaces
Or simply working alongside you to get things back under control

No judgement. No pressure. Just help.

I’m fully insured and DBS checked.

If this sounds like something that would make a difference, feel free to message 👍
Or feel free to share this with someone who might need it.

Flat-pack… or relationship test? 😅

You know the one…
Box arrives.
Looks easy.
6 hours later you’re questioning your life choices.

This was today’s job.

Full wall of IKEA units, all built, levelled and fitted properly so it actually looks like it belongs there.

Left a section ready for the TV to be mounted as well to keep it clean.

No stress. No arguing over instructions. No spare screws left over (hopefully).

If you’ve got flat-pack sitting there waiting… I get it.

Give me a message 👍
No pressure. No judgement. Just help.

This is the part no one sees… 🔨

Everyone loves the finished result…
but this is what it actually takes to get there.

Units being built
Old bits ripped out
Spaces reworked so they actually function properly

Not just making things look good, making them work.

The Beauty Cave in Cheddar is getting a full refresh and it’s all coming together 👀

If you’ve got a space that needs sorting, whether it’s building the dreaded flat pack, refurb, or just making better use of what you’ve got…

Drop me a message, I can come and take a look free of charge 💪🏻

“It’s not just clutter… and that’s what people get wrong.”

I used to support someone with severe OCD and hoarding behaviours.

Every day looked the same…

Changing clothes over and over.

Washing constantly.

Buying new clothes… but never being able to let the old ones go.

So they stayed.

Bag after bag after bag.

Not because they were lazy.

Not because they didn’t care.

But because their brain wouldn’t let them.
That flat?

It wasn’t just “a mess”
it was anxiety, routines, fear… all stacked up in physical form.

And you can’t just walk in and clear that.

You have to slow it right down.

Build trust.

Understand why.

Sometimes moving one bag was a big win.

Even things like fire risks had to be handled carefully…

because one wrong move could completely overwhelm them.

That’s something that’s always stuck with me.

Because now, when I walk into someone’s home through my work…

I don’t just see a job.

I see the person behind it.

Whether it’s clearing a space, fixing something, or helping someone get back a bit of control,
it’s never just about the job.

No judgement.
No pressure.
Just someone who gets it.

Hi, I’m Pete.

I actually set this page up a while ago with the intention of starting my own business, but not long after that I became seriously ill with sepsis and nearly lost my life.

So everything got put on hold.

Since then, I’ve taken the time to recover and really think about what I want this to be, and how I want to work with people.

For 17+ years, I worked in mental health, supporting people through some of the most difficult situations life can throw at you, crisis, addiction, homelessness, severe mental health conditions, and everything in between.

Alongside that, I’ve also spent 15 years working hands-on in property maintenance, repairs, decorating and general DIY.

What I realised is, these two things come together more than people think.

Because most of the time, it’s not just about a job needing doing.

It’s when things have built up.
When life feels overwhelming.
When you’re stuck and don’t know where to start.

That’s where I come in.

I offer practical help around the home, but with a calm, patient and non-judgemental approach.

No pressure. No judgement. Just help.

🛠️ What I can help with:

- Flat pack furniture assembly
- Shelves, curtain poles & wall mounting
- Painting & decorating
- Wall & floor tiling
- General repairs & odd jobs

💚 Support-based help:

- Getting on top of jobs that have built up
- Help when things feel overwhelming
- Support getting started with tasks
- Help with forms or life admin
- Ongoing regular support if needed

I’m fully insured and DBS checked, and I’ve completed training in safeguarding, mental health, addiction support, health & safety and so much more.

This is for you if…

- You’re feeling overwhelmed in your own space
- Things have built up and it’s starting to affect how you feel
- You keep putting things off because it all feels too much
- You don’t have the energy or headspace to get started
- You feel anxious about having people in your home
- You just want someone calm, understanding and easy to deal with

I understand that sometimes it’s not just about the job, it’s about how you’re feeling at the time.

There’s no judgement here, and no expectation for you to have everything sorted before reaching out.

Because I’m a bit old school, I haven’t got loads of photos of everything I’ve done… not even my morning cuppa 😅

So to get things going, I’m offering something for my first few customers.

👉 First 5 bookings will receive £20 off any job
(or a free hour on larger jobs)

My diary will be open from 28th April, so if you’re thinking about getting something booked in, feel free to message me.

You don’t need to have everything figured out.

If you’ve got things that need doing, or you just need a bit of help getting back on top of things, that’s enough.

No pressure. No judgement. Just help.
