When the plant room is built first, things rarely go as planned. Read how we installed a 330 kVA standby generator in a Plaistow building despite a 2.7m-high access opening and no crane path — creative rigging, careful planning and skilled installation made it happen. Read the full case study: https://wix.to/bQyFrL4

On paper it was straightforward. A 330 kVA standby generator for a building in Plaistow, East London. Concrete structure already up. Dedicated generator room already formed. An opening into that room of 2.5 m wide by 2.5 m high. Simple, you would think. It was not.The generator room was not at ground...

A generator is only as good as the installation behind it. At GES Power we survey, size, set, wire, fit ATS, calculate exhaust and fully commission so your standby system works when it matters. Read the full breakdown: https://wix.to/OpGMaGT

Key topics: survey, correct set sizing, ATS, exhaust, commissioning. Trust the full-job experts.

Plenty of companies will sell you a generator. Fewer will take responsibility for the whole job: the load, the room, the exhaust, the changeover, the cables and the day it has to start. That is the work we do at GES Power.A standby system is not a machine on a pad. It is a chain. Get one link wrong ....

We were called to a new residential development after an automatic transfer switch failed — and discovered 22 non-compliant ATS panels using imported, contactor-based control gear. Life-safety and fire-fighting supplies need reliable, compliant solutions. In this post we explain why those panels were never right for the project and how we replaced them with safe, compliant systems. Read the full case study: https://wix.to/O55RnRZ

We were called to a new residential development for a faulty automatic transfer switch. The panel that had failed was not a one-off oddity. It was an ATS built with non-branded imported control gear, and it was contactor-based. On a site that is still being built, that is a bad morning for everyone i...

Turning an office block into homes? Don’t assume the existing electrical setup will keep residents safe. Our latest post explains why running current isn’t enough and what a properly sized standby generator, correct changeover arrangement, and plant room design must deliver to keep life-safety systems online during a mains failure. Read the case study from a London conversion and learn the practical steps to compliance and safety. https://wix.to/YXewsHS &EEngineering

A former office block in London is being turned into residential apartments. That changes the building. It also changes the power.Once people live there, fire-fighting and life safety systems are not a nice extra. Sprinkler pumps, smoke control / AOVs, firefighting or evacuation lifts — those load...

The UK is investing £30m in SaxaVord Spaceport on Unst — the nation's first fully licensed spaceport. What does serious, remote infrastructure look like when backed by public and private capital? This short read breaks down the funding, the challenges of launching from the edge of the map, and why small commercial rockets could change the game for spaceflight in the UK. Read more: https://wix.to/v8Q4R4r

The UK government is putting £30 million into SaxaVord Spaceport on Unst, Shetland — the northernmost point in the country, and the UK’s first fully licensed spaceport. The funding is meant to help build two more launchpads and a second hangar, and to unlock further private investment. Companie...

A brand new padel club with modern courts — but the power system was a disaster. We were called in after they’d been sold a cheap imported generator as primary power with no support or proper design. In our latest blog we explain why that setup was risky and what club owners should insist on when choosing a power system. Read the full story and lessons learned: https://wix.to/BntmxXF

We were called to a brand new padel club. New courts, new building, new business. The one thing that was not new thinking was the power. They had been sold a cheap imported air-cooled generator as the primary source of power. Not standby. Primary. Sold by a company with no real technical knowledge an...

A 90‑second power blip in Manchester left thousands stranded — and it’s a clear reminder: short outages aren’t always short for critical systems. At Generator Man we’ve spent decades designing, installing and servicing standby power so a momentary fault stays a momentary inconvenience.

If you run a control centre, data hall, hospital, factory or any operation that can’t afford downtime, start with the right design: correct load calculations, transfer time targets, redundancy, fuel strategy and switchgear integration. Then supply the right kit, commission it under real conditions, and keep it maintained with scheduled servicing and 24/7 support. That combination is what turns “we have a generator” into “we have a generator that will actually work when the grid doesn’t.”

We’re a family-run team based in Chesterfield, speaking plain English and focused on practical, reliable solutions for UK businesses. Want to check whether your backup would have stood up to yesterday’s blip? Give us a shout — no hard sell, just honest advice.

Power risks can stop your operation and cost far more than prevention. We outline three common threats UK facilities face - grid instability, scheduled outages, and equipment failure - and how we help you avoid them with redundant systems, proactive maintenance, and bespoke installations. Compare the cost of failure with the investment in reliability and choose peace of mind. Learn more: https://wix.to/eTD2w2I

Thinking about switching your diesel generator to HVO in 2026? We’ve put together a practical, no-nonsense guide to help you decide. HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) is a drop-in renewable diesel made from waste oils and fats. If you already run a modern Perkins (or similar) engine, you can often switch straight over with no modifications.

Why consider HVO?
• Up to 90% lower fossil CO₂ emissions depending on feedstock.
• Cleaner running — less soot and potentially longer service intervals.
• Better cold-weather performance and improved storage stability.

What to watch for: HVO can cost a little more and may increase consumption by ~1–2%, and availability is still expanding. For food processors, farms, councils and any organisation with net-zero or ESG goals, it’s a strong, low-effort way to cut emissions.

We can check your set, recommend HVO-ready generators, and point you to local suppliers. Call us on 01246 380525 or email [email protected] to get honest, expert advice.

With rising fuel costs, stricter environmental targets, and increasing pressure to reduce carbon emissions, many UK businesses are asking the same question: Should we switch our diesel generator to HVO fuel?At GES Power, we’re getting more enquiries about HVO than ever before. Here’s a clear, pr...
