As we step into spring and the days start to warm up, it feels like the right moment to share this recently completed project.

A Grade II listed home in Oxfordshire, now with a new pool, plant room and garden room. Designed to sit comfortably alongside the historic house, these contemporary additions bring a new layer of enjoyment to the home creating spaces to swim, relax and gather, all while respecting the setting and character of the original house.

If you’re heading to the Listed Property Show in London this Friday and Saturday, 30–31 January, do come and say hello.

Every listed building has its own quirks and challenges, and we always enjoy talking through conservation approaches, listed building consent, and how best to balance historic significance with modern use.

Our practice, specialises in conservation, with a particular focus on Grade I and Grade II* listed buildings. James is accredited under both the AABC and RIBA Conservation Architect schemes, reflecting experience in the repair, adaptation, and long-term care of historic buildings.

If you’re attending the show and have a project in mind, or just want to talk conservation, we will be very happy to chat.

You’ll find us on Stand F11 at the Listed Property Show.

At Doughton Manor, the restoration of its historic leaded windows has been guided by a careful and considered approach. Following a detailed survey, only the panes and leadwork in genuine need of attention were repaired, ensuring the building retains as much of its original fabric as possible.

This thoughtful conservation not only protects the character of the house, but also helps keep it warm, dry and safeguarded for the future.

A quiet, meticulous craft  - preserving the stories held within every window.

There’s something special happening at Doughton Manor.

Centuries-old walls are being carefully brought back to life with a traditional lime harling render - a process that’s as much art as it is science.

From the first splatter coat to the final hand finish, every stage celebrates heritage, craft, and care.

Watch the transformation unfold - it’s pure restoration magic!

You may have spotted the scaffold wrapped around Doughton Manor - protecting this Grade I listed home as re-roofing works near completion.

The roof was last renewed in 1893, and after more than a century, the stone slates had begun to fail in the valleys and lead catchpit areas. Around half of the original slates have been reused, with matching new ones carefully sourced and fixed with oak pegs in diminishing courses. The underside is finished with insulating lime torching - keeping the manor warm and watertight once again.

Not long to go now before the roof is fully restored. 😍
