Since the CoVID lockdowns we have supported Clevedon Pier by undertaking professional drone inspections for their structural engineers. As a consequence, we were delighted to be asked to provide drone footage for Clevedon Cars & Coffee Steven’s Car.

For the last fortnight our MD (Adrian Wilkinson) has been in the Caribbean providing Quantum Systems Trinity Pro, VTOL, fixed-wing, wide area, mapping drone training to the Montserrat Volcano Observatory. The MVO recently purchased a Trinity Pro through LMCL (LMCL are Quantum-Systems UK and British Overseas Territories reseller and Adrian is an approved trainer for the Trinity Pro aircraft as well as having many hours ‘on-type’). The training culminated in Beyond Visual Line of Sight flights and LMCL was given permission by Air Safety Support International Limited (a subsidiary of the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority) to fly to a maximum lateral distance of 7km and a maximum height of 4,500 feet. In the end, the weather did not permit a flight over the summit of the volcano as planned, but the lateral distance was utilised at lower elevations over the former capital of Plymouth (buried during the 1995 to 2010 eruptions of the Soufriere Hills volcano) and is currently a restricted access zone.

LMCL would like to thank the MVO for their hospitality and the University of Bristol for the use of their video showing the Trinity Pro in action (Adrian was far too engaged with the training to collect any promotional video himself). Special thanks are given to ASSI for providing a permission to fly such a large BVLOS flight envelope.

As a highly specialised consultancy, working nationally and internationally, but based here in Clevedon; we are incredibly proud to support Clevedon Pier by undertaking their annual inspections 'pro bono'.

Inspections were first undertaken this way during the CoVID 'lock-down' when travel restrictions were in place, but they have continued to this date.

Pre-CoVID, these inspections were undertaken by Structural Engineers working at low tide in waders, or in boats, or hanging off ropes. We now provide the Engineers with high-quality, precisely located, photographs that they can inspect without needing these risky endeavours. The photographs also provide an annual record of the pier. And apart from the drone of the drone (excuse the pun), it is undertaken with limited impact on the serene setting of the Pier (we apologise to anyone that did see or hear the drone last Monday, but we did have permission to do these vital flights!)

Note this video has both sound and a voice-over, but if silence is required captions are embedded describing the video content.

DroneSurv (Land and Minerals Consulting Limited) has been assisting the Civil Aviation Authority (the regulatory body for any aircraft, no matter how small, flying in the UK) in working towards safe "beyond visual line of sight" (BVLOS) drone operations under a sandbox trial called "Project Dragon's Eye". At present this is being done at an old military airfield in North Wales, but the intention is to use these trials to enable safe BVLOS operations at other locations in the UK.

This is an incredibly prestigious project, and we are proud to be part of it.

We've just had a great day's entertainment celebrating 20 years in business at Weston Lodge Shooting Ground (for both their quad-biking and clay pigeon shooting), followed by lunch and a forward strategy meeting (with a little present of Pier Gin by The Clevedon Distillery) and lastly a lovely meal in Moguls Indian restaurant & Takeaway.

Clevedon is a wonderful place to be based and it was good to support three local businesses (as well as the many we work with on a daily basis).

A bit of a late post (we're very busy surveying at the moment), but we received a great reception at Clevedon School's annual careers evening. We appologise for the ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) leaving mud trails but it had literally just come in from an underground mine survey that afternoon! We also exhibited our large fixed-wing vertical takeoff and landing wide-area survey drone and our Uncrewed Surface Vessel for lake and shallow sea surveys.

Photographs from today's 'fair-weather, low-tide', drone survey and inspection of Clevedon's Marine Lake sea wall for North Somerset Council's Engineers. This was undertaken with with a Permit issued by NSC as no filming/flying is permitted over their land without permission. Many thanks to all the swimmers who kindly swam well away from the sea wall where we were conducting our flight operations. Your understanding was greatly appreciated!

The resultant 3D model was created from 707 photographs and resulted in model comprised of over 80M points with a resolution of 2.5mm.

DroneSurv can remotely survey any building with this new mini drone. With a Maximum Takeoff Weight (MTOW) of just 249g and as it has a 'slow-flight' mode, we can legally fly this drone in built up areas and within the normal 150m from 'uninvolved persons'. We also have relevant 3rd Party Liability Insurance in the case of any mishap. Whilst we can survey buildings for you, we obviously cannot fly over other people's property or take photographs of their property (either intentionally or unintentionally) without their permission.

So, if you want a roof, gutter or chimney inspection without using a ladder, contact us!

Extreme E's second World Series started last weekend in NEOM, Saudi Arabia.

After providing Extreme E with full-colour, 3D-surveys of all their Series 1 race environments, we are proud to have been chosen again to provide professional survey services for their race planning, logistics planning and vfx (visual effects) department race graphics (see image) for Series 2.

(If you haven't yet watched this exciting sporting event, the race can be viewed on the Extreme E website at https://lnkd.in/e7kMtUuS)

For the past year our surveyors have been providing Extreme E with high quality drone surveys and 'B-Roll' video for their worldwide electric rally races. These races have been located to raise worldwide environmental awareness (for example desertification in Saudi Arabia, ocean plastics washed up on a beach in Senegal, retreating polar ice in Greenland). The final race of the series was this weekend in Dorset (see BBC and ITV iPlayer and OnDemand) and our Directors were invited to watch it. Extreme E also invited Joe Wilkinson and Dan Wilkinson (sons of LMLC's Clevedon Director) and pupils at Clevedon School and Mary Elton. The car's engineers were really helpful and informative and explained how the Hydrogen (and soon to be Ammonia) fuel cells work and how the Odyssey 21 car uses that green energy to power an incredible Rally Car. Series 1 is over. Series 2 is about to begin!
