No matter how much you prepare for a move, there are always a few (hundred) things that slip off your radar in the chaos of it all. Panic not — we’ve put together a handy moving checklist!
📆 One month to go:
- Notify your internet, gas & electricity, water, broadband, TV suppliers of your upcoming change of address
- Start thinking about building insurance
- Check with your broker or bank on the status of your mortgage application
- Declutter, sell or donate your unwanted items
- Start looking into your nearest dentists, opticians, GP surgery at your new address
- Book a removal company
📆 One week to go:
- Start packing, and make arrangements for any pets in case they’re disturbed by all the noise and activity
- If you’re taking your fridge-freezer with you, get defrosting
- Transfer the deposit to your solicitors in advance of the completion
- Make sure all your mailing lists and subscriptions are amended with the correct address
📆 One night to go:
- Take a photo with the time and date of your metre readings (in case you need proof that you’re up to date)
- Write helpful instructions for the new owner
- Do a quick session with the mop and bucket before you go
- Raise a glass and soak up the memories!
