Agnes Twiston Hughes, the first Welsh woman to qualify as a solicitor.
Agnes was educated at the Welsh Girls' School in Ashford, Surrey and Bangor County School for Girls before gaining a B.Sc (Economics) from the University of London in 1918. She then gained first class honours from the Law Society in 1923, thus becoming the first Welsh woman to qualify as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales. Agnes then worked at her father's firm of solicitors in Conwy, which she took over following his death. In retirement, she became a local councillor before becoming Mayor of Conwy in 1954.
