A few sneak peek shots of the lounge from a stage for sale project last week

This is a large room so we created 2 seating areas which showcase the scale, but also made it feel cosy and welcoming

The brief was to create a peaceful, uncluttered space for downtime and relaxation

We started out with an unused fireplace that dominated the room

Dark beams that made the room seem even smaller

No space for a TV or any storage for books, games etc

With we pulled together a planning application to include proposals for the changes to this room……and waited!

Eventually we got the go ahead

Beams restored in the whole cottage courtesy of

Fireplace knocked out and bricked up by R&W Harrison builders (along with lots of lime plastering)

Bespoke cabinetry installed by Josh - insane scribing skills!!

It’s magical when sentiment and sustainability combine in design

My client wanted to use curtains from their parents estate in their renovation

The fabric is excellent quality and sparks joy for my client

They love the pops of bright blue, the floral pattern and most importantly, the connection to their parents

The original curtains were stripped and re-made into these beautiful modernised curtains and roman blinds

They provided the starting point for the rest of the snug - the colour of the sofa and the co-ordinating roman blinds

Rather than starting everything from fresh, look first at what you already have that can be modernised and repurposed and how you can use it to inspire something new

Working with small local businesses give you more flexibility to be creative - worked her magic to give the old curtains new life

😍 Wow - they look mint!

This has pretty much been everyones reaction to the beams

Especially from the trades, and in particular, from trades who have shot blasted beams for clients in their previous jobs - so they would know, right?

Not having renovated a grade II listed building before, I was on a learning curve

New processes, new materials, and keeping the conservation officer on board along the way

I spent hours looking at renovation solutions, trying to find something that wasn’t invasive and messy

Then I found , who worked their magic in a couple of days with a 3 stage water based product which has restored the beauty of the wood whilst providing an environmentally sound solution

Now you can see the knots and knarls, and the evidence of the hundreds of years that have passed

And even better, for the newer woodwork, this now looks totally authentic, rather than like ‘fakery’ (conservation officers words, not mine!)

We did this job early on in the renovation, and it totally transformed the look and feel of the property - lightening the rooms, and making it feel more modern, whilst retaining the integrity of the building

I spend lots of time sourcing products for projects online, and ordering sample after sample

But I love a good real life sourcing trip!

There’s so much value in having a conversation with product experts whilst you’re actually holding the products

To get the feel for the texture, to hold them in different lights, bring different ideas together and see how they work

Decisions made, inventory arriving and this project kicks off later in the week

The home straight (for Phase 1)...

😊 I literally had a lump in my throat on my site visit today

😍 The cottage is starting to come together as the decorators are finishing off, blinds and curtains being installed and the heating is up and running

🤩 It’s starting to feel like the bright, modern and cosy country retreat that was my clients’ brief

🤯 This project has definitely thrown lots of challenges at everyone who has been involved but it’s been so rewarding

🛌 The next obstacle is to get furniture up a steep and skinny staircase (not to mention a freestanding bath - but that’s phase II - so we can take a breath before that)

In my happy place…

😍 I had the afternoon on site with the trades at this beautiful cottage, which is coming on leaps and bounds

📅 This project has been months in the making

🤔 Wrangles with a conservation officer, and planning delays

😵‍💫 The schedule was planned, re-planned and planned again

💯 The trade teams have been amazing; a thoroughly talented bunch (more to follow on the teams I’ve been working with later)

🏃‍♀️ There’s still a way to go, but we’re making big strides now!

🎦 Latest update video and photos sent to my wonderful client - who NEVER thought she’d get excited about tiles and radiators - until now!

Uni days…

🏫 Staging student accommodation over the last couple of weeks, and seeing parents viewing the rooms and facilities with their young people really brought home how important it is to show a safe, comfortable and fulfilling space

🧑‍🎓For the parents, seeing a space where they can imagine their young person being productive, secure and included

👯 And for the student, to see how they can keep the comforts of home while having a place to call their own, and space they can enjoy with their friends

😕 Empty rooms look sterile, and can make moving feel like a daunting process

🤗 Showcasing a lifestyle creates excitement and confidence around how they will fit in and experience a new chapter of their lives
