A growing trend in the city. Yet the council is still allowing new developments of student accommodation???

🏢 Proposals have been submitted to convert a disused Coventry student accommodation block into non-student co-living spaces and HMO units. Apollo House, located on The Butts in Spon End, previously accommodated over 100 students before sitting empty since 2023.

📐 Under plans submitted to Coventry City Council by Samson Space on behalf of Hayatt Group Limited, the current four-storey building would be converted into HMO and bedsit accommodation, alongside a two-storey rooftop extension to create 38 purpose-built co-living units.

🌿 The extension would increase the building height to six storeys and feature a communal outdoor roof terrace for residents. Developers noted the scheme has been redesigned following pre-application talks with the council to move away from student-only housing and better align with local housing priorities.

📋 City planners will now consider the application (Ref: PL/2026/0001559/FULM), with a decision expected later this year.
