Celebrating 5 years with Bournes 👏

A big thank you and congratulations to Jamie Bowyer from our Rye Team, who marks his 5-year anniversary with us this month.

Jamie joined Bournes as a porter and, through hard work, commitment, and a real willingness to learn, has progressed into an HGV driver and now a Team Leader. A journey that reflects exactly what we stand for -developing our people and creating opportunities to grow. Special mention to Lester, whose guidance and support have been a key part of that progression. It’s a great example of how experience and mentorship shape the next generation in our teams.

Thanks for everything you’ve put in over the last five years, Jamie. A thoroughly deserved milestone.

49 years. One company. One career.🌟

On Friday, we celebrated Steve Rees as he retired from Bournes after an incredible 49 years.

Steve joined straight from school in 1977. Having heard there might be work, he turned up at the office and was sent out on a job the very next day: a different era, and the start of something remarkable.

By 1982, he was driving our first HGV drawbar vehicle, travelling across the UK and Europe. Over the years, Steve has played a pivotal role in shaping our European business - particularly from the early 1990s when Bournes became a founding shareholder of UTS in Europe. His dedication and relationship-building, along with his deep industry knowledge, helped us grow our European operations into what they are today.

To this day, colleagues across Europe still ask after him and speak of him and his wife Kim with huge respect - something that says a lot about the impact he’s had, not just within Bournes, but across the wider industry.

Alongside this, Steve has been instrumental in developing our commercial moving division - from major projects with retailers like Harrods and large hospital relocations, to long-standing work with local government organisations who, like all of us, have come to lean on Steve as a partner they can trust.

But beyond the work, it’s the person people talk about.

Calm under pressure. Generous with his time and knowledge. Always willing to help. A constant presence for so many of us over the years who will be sorely missed.

After 49 years, no one deserves a well-earned retirement more.

Steve, thank you - for everything. Enjoy it.
