🌍 An important event for our community - People’s Emergency Briefing

We’re sharing this event on behalf of Libraries Unlimited as we think it’s an important opportunity for local residents to come along, learn more and take part in the discussion.

What’s happening with our climate and nature, and what could it mean for everyday life in the UK?

The People’s Emergency Briefing is a 50-minute film bringing together nine leading UK scientists and experts to look at the latest evidence and what it means for issues including:

🌧️ Extreme weather
🍞 Food security
🏥 Health
💷 The cost of living

The film is based on the National Emergency Briefing held in Westminster and features contributions from Chris Packham, Deborah Meaden and a range of voices from across the UK.

Following the screening, there will be an open, facilitated discussion about what these issues could mean for our community and what we can do locally.

☕ The library café will be open before the screening, with hot and cold drinks available.

🎟️ The event is free, but spaces are limited, so booking in advance is essential. Everyone is welcome, so why not bring along a friend, neighbour or family member?

East Cullompton Strategic Design Code - Thursday 24 September

The project team behind the East Cullompton Strategic Design Code will be attending the next Cullompton Town Council meeting this Thursday, 24 September, at 6.30pm at The Hayridge.

This is an opportunity for residents and anyone with an interest in the future of East Cullompton to find out more about the Strategic Design Code, hear about the plans and ask questions.

The Strategic Design Code will help guide the design of future development in East Cullompton, building on the existing Masterplan.

There is also a public consultation currently open, with a short survey available for anyone who would like to share their views. The consultation closes on Friday 16 October 2026.

🌿VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT - MICHELLE & PETER 🌿

For well over a year, Michelle and Peter have been attending the Memorial Garden almost every week, pruning, weeding and tidying the garden, as well as keeping the paving looking neat and cared for.

Their regular commitment and attention to detail means that this special place continues to look its best for everyone who visits, and we really appreciate the time and effort they put in.

We want to recognise people like Michelle and Peter who give their own time to benefit our community. Often, this work happens quietly in the background, but it makes a huge difference to our town. 🌱

Thank you to Michelle and Peter, for giving up your time! 👏💚

🗣️ Have your say on the future of East Cullompton. Consultation is now open.

The Culm Garden Village is a long-term plan for up to 5,000 new homes, alongside employment, shops, schools, transport improvements, healthcare and leisure facilities.

East Cullompton is already allocated for development through the Mid Devon Local Plan, and the Strategic Design Code sets out principles for how the new development should look, feel and function.

The Code builds on the East Cullompton Masterplan and will help guide the design of future planning applications, while allowing flexibility for detailed design.

If you have an interest in the future of East Cullompton, you are invited to share your views through a short survey. The survey is open until Friday 16 October 2026.
