🍂 Autumn Wildlife Spotlight at the Park 🍂

Our grounds team found this stunning Pale Tussock moth caterpillar today!

Historically known as 'hop dogs' because they were frequently found by hop pickers, these caterpillars are famous for their bright lime-green bodies, four dense tufts of hair, and a quirky red "tail".

When they feel threatened, they arch their backs to reveal hidden jet-black bands between their yellow tufts—nature's way of saying "back off!"

We love seeing the park thriving with local biodiversity. If you spot one during your stay, feel free to snap a picture, but please don't handle them directly, as those hairs can leave you with an itchy welt!

🌿 **Conservation is a big part of what we do here at Coastal Kippford Holiday Park.** We pride ourselves on our landscaping and the natural habitats we create, helping support a wide variety of wildlife across the park.

Historically, Kippford was a fantastic area for red squirrels, and it wasn’t unusual to see them every day. Sadly, over the years, grey squirrels have become more dominant in the area, putting increasing pressure on our smaller, native red squirrels.

We’re delighted to announce that we’ve added a direct link to the **Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels squirrel monitoring website** to our Coastal Kippford Holiday Park homepage, making it quick and easy for our owners, visitors and local community to report squirrel sightings.

Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels has created a simple squirrel monitoring platform. If you spot **either a red squirrel or a grey squirrel**, please take a moment to record your sighting.

It’s quick, easy and every sighting helps build a better picture of squirrel populations and movements — providing valuable information to conservationists working to protect our native red squirrels. ❤️🐿️

Every place has a story, but it’s the people who make it truly special.

In Podcast 2, we hear stories and memories from some of the people who have been part of the Coastal Kippford journey.

🎙️ Mel Riach shares her story of taking over the family business from her mum and dad two years ago.

We also hear from Scott McColm, former Commodore of the Solway Yacht Club, Paul, who has worked at the park for more than 20 years, and Caroline Farrer, a caravan owner who loves spending her holidays here.

A lovely collection of stories, memories and experiences that give an insight into the people, friendships and community that make Coastal Kippford what it is today.
