⚓️ A little piece of Dartmouth’s wartime history.

Nestled beside Kingswear Castle is this rather unassuming little building, which played a fascinating role in protecting Dartmouth during the Second World War.

Built in 1940, the Kingswear Torpedo Battery housed 21-inch torpedoes, ready to defend the entrance to Dartmouth Harbour from enemy ships.

Cleverly disguised as a traditional thatched boat house, its true purpose was hidden from view — a remarkable piece of wartime ingenuity.

Today it sits quietly on the waterfront, surrounded by the beauty of the River Dart, a fascinating reminder of Dartmouth’s important role during the war. ⚓️❤️

From harbour to plate… 🐟✨

Yesterday we watched the incredible bluefin tuna being carefully brought into Brixham Harbour and delivered straight to the fish market. Seeing such an impressive catch up close was a real reminder of the amazing seafood landed on our local coastline.

Today, we had the pleasure of watching the team at The Counter in Dartmouth expertly prepare that same beautiful tuna, ready for customers to enjoy. It doesn’t get much fresher than that!

We’re so pleased to welcome The Counter to Dartmouth. It’s wonderful to see another fantastic independent business championing fresh, local seafood, and we can’t wait to keep enjoying their delicious fish.

One of our absolute favourite places to eat has to be The Seahorse Restaurant in Dartmouth

Everything about it feels special, from the warm, buzzing atmosphere overlooking the water to some of the best seafood and Italian-inspired dishes we’ve ever eaten. The menu changes daily depending on what’s landed locally, and every plate somehow manages to feel both beautifully simple and unforgettable.

And before dinner, cocktails in Joe's Bar are an absolute must 🍸✨ Such a cosy little spot and the perfect start or end to the evening.

It’s easy to see why The Seahorse has remained in the UK’s Top 100 restaurants for more than a decade and is often recognised as one of the South West’s most loved dining spots. A proper Dartmouth gem

Tucked right by the water in Dartmouth, The Crafty Mussel is one of those spots you’ll keep coming back to.

Their mussels are the star of the show – fresh, flavour-packed and served in the most delicious sauces (you’ll want extra bread to soak up every last bit!). Pair that with a locally crafted cider and you’ve got the perfect laid-back Devon dining experience.

There’s something about sitting by the water, tucking into incredible seafood and watching the boats drift by that just feels like holiday mode at its best.
