This International Women’s Day feels like a special one for us.

Nearly three years ago, my wife Aimee and I started Tekter with a shared passion for restoring and protecting historic buildings.

But the journey really started much earlier. 10 years ago I began my path into stonemasonry — stepping into a traditionally male-dominated trade. From day one I was incredibly fortunate to be supported by the men I worked alongside, who encouraged me to learn, develop my skills and thrive in the craft. This continues today with two talented men as part of our 4 person team here in North Cornwall.

Now we’re proud to pass that same support on to the next generation of female tradespeople.

Meet Izzy, our 19-year-old apprentice who has been part of the team for nearly two years. Watching her learn traditional techniques, gain confidence on site and develop her skills has been one of the most rewarding parts of running this company.

Heritage skills only survive if they’re passed on — and we’re proud to be part of that.

Here’s to the women restoring the past and building the future.

Photos of the last render job of the year now the weather is setting in. This outbuilding is looking👌 Fixed a slate seat into the porch area so you can hide from the Cornish weather. Great job with lovely returning customers. Used tradiblanc st astier from which is great for keeping the colour of the sand but works well on new block work. Giving it a traditional lime render look/finish but on modern block work.

Water ingress through a crack in the render which when we came to do the repairs we discovered it was due to an iron stake which had been used to fix the slate on top of the clome oven. The iron had rusted & expanded which cracked the slate capping above the clome oven. This allowed water ingress through the crack, which expanded the cob & cracked the render. We removed renders, allowing the cob to dry out in the summer ovens & then rebuilt the clome oven. We then reapplied the lime render with a rough cast finish to match the above ✅

Thanks to for the products, spot on as always 👌 Allowing us to keep conserving these beautiful properties across Cornwall & Devon.

This summer our 3 man team restored this 1880 cottage, initially the customer wanted it to be repointed however on removal of the sand and cement render it was clear the stone wall was too friable and needed a bit more weather protection. After discussion, we decided to go forward with the traditional finish of a bag rub. Bag rubbing… not quite pointing, not quite rendering. It conserves the unique character of the stone whilst also offering additional protection. Good craftsmanship should create a consistent, uniform finish whilst following the individual contours of the stonework.

With regard to the name, the clue is in the is the title, a “bag” of hessian is used to apply lime and although very time consuming (if done well) it offers a beautiful and distinctive finish.

We also replaced the window sills on the large elevation, using reclaimed delabole slate that the customer had in their garden.

The front of the house was repointed & rebuilt the top part of the front boundary wall.

Lovely job, lovely area & lovely customers. Really enjoyed spending a large part of our summer here.

Thanks to for the materials 👌
