Here is Nelly's Story...
When my waters broke at 30 weeks, I was told my baby could arrive at any time and to prepare for a long stay in on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
2 weeks later, our beautiful Daughter, Nelly, arrived - weighing just 4lb 2oz!
With no space at Nottingham Neonatal, she was transferred to Lincoln hospital.
Thankfully, the facilities available meant that we were able to stay with Nelly. An already stressful time could’ve been made so much worse if we’d have had to travel for 2 hours to see our Daughter every day.
The team on the unit were absolutely incredible – not only did they provide Nelly with the specialist care she needed, they supported us as parents too, for which I will be forever grateful.
I’m pleased to say that we were able to return home after just 2 weeks on the unit, as a family of 3, and next month we will be celebrating Nelly’s 2nd Birthday!
Unfortunately, not all families receive the amazing care that we did.
For babies like Nelly, or babies born sick, premature or in need of specialist hospital care, the first few hours, days and weeks are the most critical that they will ever face. For their families, whether their baby is in hospital for a few days or many months, or sadly does not survive to come home, the journey they face is difficult and full of challenges.
Bliss is there for all of these babies. The exist to ensure they have the best chance of survival and quality of life, just like Nelly.
