Our managing director Peter Hart recently had the opportunity to spend time with a local entrepreneur/inventor, namely Chris Massey in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, at his home called the ‘Tin Shed’ (former sheep shed) and at the Peak Training Centre on the same site.
What he has created, is truly inspiring and mind-blowing….
Believed, to be the first Carbon Neutral Training Centre Site in the UK, powered by the ground, sun and rain water.
Solar panels on the roof are capable of 65kw of energy, with unused energy stored in stackable batteries.
Seven 450 meter loops of pipework underground that generates warm water using the grounds latent heat before entering a heat exchanger.
Rainwater stored in large 3500 litre containers.
I have been truly inspired, I could have listened to Chris all day! The attention to detail of the insulation methods used. For example, there is internal and external insulation to the structure walls, however, every third block was also manually drilled and insulation injected… and it clearly works. In the middle of winter, with next to no heating on, the large building unit was warm.
A big thank you to Chris Massey for being so accommodating and answering my million questions!!
