From Redundancy to Restoration — The GleamGuard Story

In 2021 I was made redundant from a job I didn't enjoy. A good friend, John, needed some work doing and knew I had the skills to help. When we finished, he sat me down and gave me my first real business lesson — how to price a job properly. From that conversation, a business was born.

I started out as a handyman — fitting kitchens, laying turf, replacing drainage, building ceilings, erecting garden buildings. I was good at it and kept busy. But things changed when a contact from my networking group asked me to clean his 200sqm sandstone patio. I loved the work. But the black spot remained and I couldn't shift it — and that bothered me.

So I went away, trained with PureSeal Ltd, invested in the right equipment, and went back a year later. This time, every bit of black spot was gone and the whole area was sealed. That job changed everything.

Over the years that followed I deliberately chose to specialise. This is one of the less typical jobs we carry out — but it's worth sharing, because very few contractors will take it on.

A pool pump room had sustained fire damage. The walls were completely blackened from floor to ceiling — heavy soot and carbon deposits throughout. The structural shell was sound; the surfaces needed specialist restoration.
